Without sport Chrono Package , I can hold brake and floor gas peddle , PDK will go into neutral, rpms jump up , let off brake and wham gone.
this can’t be good for transmission? Is this something you do what are your thoughts .
is it the same as Chrono launch?

 

I have the chrono and my old brain agrees with you. I have only done it twice. LOL In the manual it states that it puts the car under extreme pressures. When you take off you feel that kick as the PDK shifts. That being said I am sure it is built to withstand it.

 

My concern is this same as chrono? Is it intended to do this if you don't have sports chrono ?

 

the sports chrono package provides launch control in PDK models. so you:

1. Flip dial to Sport Plus
2. Hold down the brake pedal (firmly)
3. Mash the accelerator
4. The engine will hit redline and "launch control" appears on the display
5. Let foot off the brake, weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

Make sure there's NOTHING in front of you.

 

I don't have sports chrono , but mine does the exact same thing in sport mode . My question is does sport chrono in launch mode do something to transmission to make it safe to do this procedure? I hear about launch control with sports chrono package, what is the difference between launch control with sports chrono vs good ole boy launch with out sports chrono?

I believe you're correct...it will bounce off repeatedly until cancelled or foot is off the brake.

 

So I you are saying there is not difference and with or with out sport chrono with launch control , there is no difference in stress , no problem with using this technique vs launch control with sports chrono.

 

I am assuming something has to be different. Why justify the chrono cost if it is not so? Just a guess.

I am wondering if the chrono allows launch control by telling computer to go some sort of mode that prepares car for sudden launch ?
with out launch control the car does seem to do the same thing , but is doing so because of an over ride of pdk from power and brake and is not meant to be used as such.
surely somebody out there knows the truth?

 

I am assuming the extra cost is mostly for the dynamic mounts and the clock, the launch control is probably just software so some R&D cost as well. Also great marketing as most buyers don't need it but really really want it...

additional software that does what ? Does it do something different that keeps you from breaking your PDK if you do a power launch with out it .
