Default My first 911 - from a Vette to a Carrera 4

Good evening all! I just traded my C7 Corvette in on a Racing Yellow 2013 Carrera 4 a few days ago. I was daily driving the C7 and put 22k miles on it in just one year and four months but prices have stayed high as a result of the C8 production issues and I was able to get good $ for it and a nice discount on the Porsche. So far I am loving it. This is my first Porsche and my expectations have been surpassed. The C7 was a great car but the 911 is the full package with the extra refinement and even tighter handling that the C7 was missing. With that being said, I think the C7 is unbeatable for the money.

My fiance is currently driving what will soon be my DD again (BMW 550i) so once she moves into her new office I will have my access back to that car and hoping to keep the miles lower on the 911. I also have a 2006 Pontiac GTO which I try to drive only on special occasions as the miles are very low and parts are becoming nearly impossible to find. This forum is full of information and I am already learning a ton just from reading other posts. Cheers to all and thanks for having me!

This thread is worthless without pics, just sayin'...I did what you just did in August, but I'm keeping my C7 to enjoy along with the C2S Cab that I purchased. Enjoy the new ride!

Welcome to the forum. A very helpful group here. I did the same thing you did almost two years ago. As much as I liked the C7 Corvette, I had always dreamed of a 911 and jumped at the opportunity as soon as the perfect one showed up. Zero regrets.

As much as I loved my C7 GS (and wish I could have both), I do have to say my 911 is just a much better car.

Congrats to you and enjoy it!! I know you will 😁

Congrats and enjoy!
I was toying with the idea to replace my C5 with C7 as they were giving great deals on them with the C8 pending. Ended up getting 991.1 C4 to replace my truck and keeping my C5. I think it was a great choice, and I couldn't be happier!

As a relative newcomer to 911s myself, welcome to the forum and the body of knowledge its members represent.

Answer this, does the 911 make the Vette feel somewhat rough around the edges? I compare it to a scalpel versus a bowie, but that's coming from an older car.

Between my 2017 C7 with the Z51 package and my 2015 911 C4S, I feel the 911 is more polished with better fit and finish (as it should be for the price difference). I also think the handling is better in the 911 and tracks better on curves with a very slight oversteer feel as opposed to the push I would sometimes feel in the Vette when I pushed it hard. Also for me personally, at 6'-3", I fit much better in the 911 than I did in the Vette. My Vette was a convertible and I always felt that there was a little cowl shake on rough roads but again this is very slight. However, the acceleration in the Vette was incredible but this is probably due to comparing an automatic Vette to a manual 911. As for reliability, neither the Vette nor the 911 ever gave me any issues.

All of my Corvettes have been super reliable. I am 6'4" and fitting in the C7 was a bit tight. The C5 gives me helmet room. The 991 is definitely the most roomy and comfortable of them all. It's a do everything at a high level of functionality car. I live on a twisty and dippy country road that was recently (thankfully) re-paved. Before the paving the 991 absolutely exhibited a much more refined handling characteristic. Soaking up the things that would unsettle the Corvette at similar speeds, while remaining firm and in control. Very different indeed.

If you haven't already, I think you and airbusdriver (OP) might enjoy watching

Thank you all for your comments. As far as the comparison between the C7 and the 991, I think WEM 911 C4S hit the nail on the head. I couldn't have said it better myself. The acceleration on the C7 was something else, but I wouldn't say it was better or worse than my Carrera 4. Just a different feeling altogether; both are stupid fun. The Porsche is my first AWD car as well so I am still getting used to the different feel in comparison with RWD but I like it a lot. Feels like more of a pull than a push, if that makes any sense. My C7 had an intake and exhaust and was manual so there was no shortage of fun but this car feels much more refined and definitely more comfortable. In addition, the visibility is tremendously better. The Corvette was very reliable and I never had any issues at all. More service intervals on this car for sure but I am going to try my best to stay on top of everything.

I am going to attach a few pics. Sorry for not including them right off the bat. I will try to take some better ones this weekend and upload them.

Cheers!
