Default Center Radiator - Worth the Trouble?

Just bought a 991.1 with a PDK and liking the idea of the third (center) radiator. Thoughts from the group? Not a track rat, just a daily/weekend car.

Could be a fun project. Necessary? Absolutely not for a daily/weekend car. I drove mine as a daily for about 2 years in south Florida without a center radiator. I added it because my car became my track car.

Unless you live in a very hot part of North Carolina, the car probably wouldn't benefit. On the other hand, if you will sleep better at night, go for it.
Have been considering one for my 991.2 here in Charleston, SC where it does get hot but currently, just keeping the front air vanes open seems to do the trick.

ex-Mt Pleasant resident here, love Charleston. I don’t like the fake center opening and filling it with extra cooling capacity just might help me sleep better!

Extra weight and drag will make your car slower.

LOL these comments always make me chuckle. The good majority of us aren't at the track every weekend, so what does that really matter? Slower by how much in reality anyway? 🙄

Installed the third radiator and grills on my 991.2.

As to why I did it? The fake intake annoyed me, and for the feeling of accomplishment.

What others would think wasn’t a factor.

likewise. And even if the car is at the track (and mine is my track car), in my opinion, it’s still worth it to do the center radiator despite the “extra drag” and despite that it will make my car “slower.” Lol

Default To me the fake plastic front piece

Was the only thing in the car that i did not like appearance wise. Motor wise cooler is better. I have a 911 to drive and 98% of the time its in sports plus mode which runs cooler anyway. Do you have SC to take advantage of lowering engine temps ?

For a daily your gonna trade in 2 years not worth it. For me, I care about motor condition and gaskets in 10 to 15 years.

I, as noted in a previous post didn't like the blanking plate. In a daily driver situation you probably wont notice a change except in your personal swagger because of another primo DIY upgrade!

There's another member here that testifies to doing the entire X51 kit and leaving off the 3rd radiator...

This is on my list - (In Charlotte if you're local). I like the idea of the aesthetics and with a C2S wouldn't mind a negligible amount more weight on the front... After 5 years and some pretty good summer runs, heat has never been an issue for me.

I’m being swayed by eliminating the fake panel...probably not a good return on the dollar but at least it’s a functional cosmetic upgrade. If you decide a DIY I’d like to see it first hand. Thanks.
