Great point. I'm 1' 15" from my preferred dealer. Add in the wait and it's at least 1/2 day of my time,

Your bill really seems excessive, but apparently the service involved more than an oil change.

My last oil change and multi-point inspection cost $263 with tax and a "free" hand car wash (declined) at my dealer. It hasn't changed in 4 years. At first, I thought this was too expensive, but it's a Porsche dealership, not Jiffy-Lube. Plus, it is only once a year.

If you didn't get a cost estimate for the work in advance, probably the best you can do now is ask the Service Rep to review the bill with you, item by item, so you can better understand the basis for the charges. This may give you the opportunity to negotiate a little on some of the items.

Either way, becoming a "loyal" customer may help build a favorable relationship with the service department that pays dividends later. The last time I had my car in for mounting of the summer wheels (centerlocks), the new service manager presented a bill for about $200. I questioned it because the former service manager, with whom I had done business for years, charged $49. The new guy looked it up, apologized, and adjusted my bill to $49.

Of course, you can also build a such relationship with an independent for less.

As I said I don't take mine to a dealer either. You sound confused. It seems I will be in the clubhouse by the time you catch up.

What is the "going rate" for an alignment?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Paid $220 at Reeves Tampa in Dec, following them putting 4xMP4S on my C2.

Just had mine done, RAS, it was around $250 and they did it twice at that price because I asked them to try and minimize the inner tread wear, so they set it right at the edge of the camber settings the second time.

Also replaced the rear tires at near 12k miles and they price tires parallel to Tire Rack quotes.

They offered a free loaner every time.

No longer do oil changes on cars but do maintain other things like yard work and gardening equipment just because I still can. It's a treat to let the dealer do the work at a fairly reasonable rate and they have done good work so far.

Reeves is where I ordered and bought my car. They seem to be a decent business, I would use them but I'm across the state on the Atlantic side.

That sounds inexpensive here in California, Here a oil change service which includs Oil and Filters, etc is $1,300. That's when it's done at a dealership with a Union shop. Welcome to the Golden State

I live in RI and just got a quote for an oil change and brake flush for a 991.2 (purchased about a year ago) at Porsche Warwick:

Oil change is $425
Brake fluid flush is $310

I’m going to do it myself, I was able to buy the necessary tools, brake bleeder, Race Ramps, an iCarsoft to reset the service light, and all fluids/filter and I’m still saving money this time and will save even more in future years. I used to do all my own maintenance on my cars but then lived in NYC for years and didn’t have anywhere to do the work. Now I live in the burbs and have a 3 car garage.

Not in my garage here in SoCal, $75 for parts and I mow the lawn while the oil is draining. I just saved $1225!

Don't know where you are seeing $1300 oil changes but I suggest you shop around. Even my local rip-off dealership serving the South Bay and Palos Verdes is "only" $450.

$200 is the cost for those not sharp enough to catch it and call BS. New guy thought he had a live one but you called him out. He maybe looked up what you were charged in the past but he didn't look up the official dealership price as it doesn't exist.

"I told him let's do the oil change together since my car is there".
At our shop, when a customer wants to help, we charge extra also.

Have all the tools. Doing it myself from now on and saving receipts. Walmart sells the 5 quart jug of Mobil One 0W-40 for $23. So under $100 all in seems about right.
More like $65 for all of the parts. And you don't even have to jack up a 991.2 to drain the oil.

I'm in CT and the local dealer charges $425 + tax.
So I bought a reset tool and learned how to DIY for about $70 in parts. About 15 oil changes worth of savings will pay for my entire 4-post lift. Totally insane!!
