Default Brake Fluid Level Park Vehicle Safely Message

Hi I am having an issue were my brake fluid level light has come and I am not sure why. I assumed it was the brake pads so I changed all the brake pads and sensors. I also bleed all the brakes and still, the message is on the dashboard. What else could be the issue or how can I reset the system? Thank you

Did you check the reservoir? I'm sure you did but there is a level sensor in there that could be broken if the fluid is at the proper level.

It stands to reason that if that sensor is working properly, that if you changed your pads and sensors and bled your brakes, that the fluid level should be even lower than where you started, which would mean that warning would still be there. Or, am I wrong?

Did you just bleed the brakes or do a full flush/fill?

That message means the reservoir is low. It you topped it of, then it's likely a bad sensor.

Yes, I did check the reservoir and the reservoir looked fine level was not low at all. No leaks nothing broken based on what I can see.

I also added new fluid as part of the brake bleeding process.

Sounds like that sensor must be defective, then. Can't think of any other reason if you've done everything else 100% correctly, which it sounds like you have!

I did a complete flush and fill.

Which sensor do you speak off and were is it located?

Which sensor do you speak off and were is it located and is it simple to replace?

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to that - hopefully, someone here does. My best guess is that it is integrated into the reservoir it's self and might require that whole part be replaced. I tried looking at the diagrams related to the brake system and nothing stands out to me as a standalone sensor specific to the brake fluid level.

It's a float ball integrated into the reservoir. If the sensor or float ball is bad, you'll need to replace the entire reservoir. I just pulled a picture from the web from a 996, but it's similar in the 991. First pic is what's under the internal strainer cap that you can pull out. You could inspect that and if the little ball isn't floating on top, then that's your issue.

This image below is from the 991 Service Manual. I've circled the plug/connection for the sensor.

Part #991-355-013-02. Costs about $65.
