991.2 PSE Question on C2
So I'm deciding between two different 991.2 C2's, one has Sport Exhaust, other does not.
Question: When PSE is NOT actuated, does the exhaust sound essentially the same as car that does not have PSE?
Asked differently: Would a car w/o PSE sound same as one w/PSE that is not actuated?
For me it is tricky, as I actually like the looks better w/o it (i.e. one exhaust pipe on each side, instead of both in center of rear bumper).
Just want to make sure I have all info before I make final decision.
Thanks in advance for the info!

I just watched the video. So it seems that even when PSE is not actuated in the car with it, there is still a slightly deeper and louder sound outside the car than the car that doesn't have it. But probably this is not discernible inside the car at all.
I have a 991.2 GTS Coupe, so comes with PSE. I find there is a very noticeable difference between PSE off and on, in normal mode, and a huge difference between PSE off / normal mode versus PSE on and sport/sport+. And that is why I like it so much, it is switchable, and goes from drive to church on Sunday mode to hooligan. You won't care about the tailpipes. My car pretty much stays in sports+ with PSE on, once it's warmed up, unless it's raining.
After almost 2 years of ownership of my 991.1 C2, the only thing that I regret it not having is PSE. If the cars you're deciding between are equally equipped otherwise, the one with PSE is where I'd land.

I wanted PSE but settled for a non-pse 991.2 since the car checked all my other boxes. Installed a soul performance exhaust with high flow cats a few months after ownership, couldn't be happier.
I prefer the look of the quad tail pipes better.

^ To each their own, but my two cents:
- I wouldn't let PSE or no PSE sway my decision between two nice 991.2s (assuming they aren't identical), or whether I'd buy a particular 991.2 if I liked everything else about it. Both systems are "fine," and can always be replaced with one of several aftermarket options.
- I drove quite a few 991.2s with and without PSE (a dozen?) and then ordered two 991.2 Carreras in a row without PSE as I don't love its artificial pops & crackles or aesthetics. Yes, the standard exhaust is a bit quiet for my tastes at times, which has me wishing for 10-20% more voice (not to be confused with volume), but the car is hardly quiet. YMMV…
- A friend bought a 991.2 Carrera T, and sometimes drives my 991.2 Carrera w/o PSE; he absolutely loves his T, but wishes it didn't have PSE. Fwiw, we both love (and have) "loud" sports cars...they just aren't our daily drivers.

You certainly can. The difference will be less dramatic than on cars with PSE as the valves open flow path on PSE is almost straight through. On non-PSE cars, the amount of turbo spool will be noticeable but the overall exhaust volume won't rise dramatically.
For OP's reference, here is a PSE car with Sport Cats:
Non-PSE Base model with Sport cats:
Alternatively for non-PSE cars - changing the rear exhaust alone to our Performance Exhaust will offer an incredible sound - on par with the volume level of a Sport Cat equipped PSE car.

When Sport Exhaust is not activated, does it sound the same as a car that does not have Sport Exhaust? Are there any differences in the tonal quality of the exhaust sound even when not activated, or does it basically sound same as car that doesn't have it?
Okay so from my personal experience, a base carrera with sport exhaust closed will be quieter than a car without sport exhaust, but with the exhaust open the PSE is noticeably deeper, louder, and overall more aggressive. when PSE is closed you can hear it, it sounds like a car with the valves closed, if you are used to valved exhausts you will know what I mean, it sounds like its ready to break free or open up, on the Base model without PSE it sounds a bit louder and deeper. on the S you have vacuum operated valves so the S onces the valves are open are def louder then PSE closed, but still not as loud as PSE with open valves. hope that helps
