Default stupid question: soul cat bypass pipe vs sport cat?

what is the main difference? I'm thinking to spend a little money to make my carrera T sounds louder and better. The sport cat cost >2000$ while catless pipe is only 900$. Is the sport cat sounds 2.5 times better than catless pipe?

BTW, which place I should go for installation in Houston area? Not a DIY guy...

Many thanks in advance

Cat bypass pipes completely eliminate the catalytic converters. This setup tends to derail the car’s oxygen sensors and may cause a check engine light.

Sport cats have 200 cell catalytic converters. This setup (for me) has never caused a check engine light.

Stock is 400 cell catalytic converters.

If you go cat bypass, know that check engine lights can be cleared with a tool (many options available), and you may want to own it yourself so you don’t have to worry/wait.

Sound is subjective. Sport cats add a nice low burble and increase the pops in Sport mode. I imagine the cat bypass pipes take it one step further since there is no restriction.

Cat bypass sounds 2.5 times better then the sport cats, but the sport cats require no tuning and basically no smell. adds a noticeable boost in volume and pops, nothing crazy. Cat bypass sounds a lot louder and better IMO, and with a tune you can shoot flames like crazy.

Removing the cats and not replacing them causes pollution. Further, if you reduce exhaust back pressure without balancing the intake, you will lose low end torque. Also beware of drone with aftermarket systems.

If you change both the intake and exhaust, you need to tune the car to make any significant change in performance.

There are systems than remove the muffler and leave the cats. Some have posted that if you have the PSE, it’s already straight through when the valves are opened.

So you can have extra sound but there are some consequences. Lots of opinions on this forum about this.

Cats reduce emissions and act as a muffler. Going to higher flow cats (bigger flow paths) reduces their ability to scrub emissions but reduces exhaust flow restriction and the muffler effect. Going to a cat bypass pipe takes out the catalytic converter completely, so no reduction of pollution. Hence the bad smells.

Thank you for considering us!

You're paying more for the Sport Catalytic Converters due to the HJS HD 200 cell catalytic converters. They're premium catalysts imported from Germany built around a triple metal matrix and are loaded with (expensive) precious metals to effectively catalyze while allowing for more flow. They also have a brazing stripe around them which locks the cores in place preventing them from being knocked loose during abuse. We warranty them for street and track use so you don't have to worry about enjoying your car. The increase in fumes from the exhaust is very small, not normally notable.

For the Cat Bypass Pipes expect a check engine light which has a low chance of being permanently defeated by o2 spacers - only an ECU tune that disables the CEL will be guaranteed to solve it. You'll expect some noxious fumes which may waft into the cabin at stop lights or be noticeable if started in a garage.

Sound wise, both are great! Sport Cats offer a refined increase in sound while generally never being overbearing - closing the valves makes the car sound almost like OEM, very civil. Cat Bypass Pipes offer much more snarling and volume, sound fantastic in my opinion. However, you're less able to cruise around without being noticed as having a modded exhaust. Consider the Cat Bypass Pipes if you're willing to deal with the CEL situation, fumes, likely not passing emissions inspection, potential dealer disapproval, and very aggressive tone. If any of those give you hesitation - the Sport Catalytic Converters for the 991.2 Carrera are our most popular product that we sell for good reason - they're a great all around solution. If you want to try the Cat Bypass Pipes, we can take them back if they are not for you.

Should you have more questions or want to chat about your options, we're always here to help!

-Mike

Hey! Right now all orders are built for fulfillment. Select dealers are investing in stocking some of our more popular parts, like Momentum Worx!

I prefer the catless. The sounds are amazing, even with stock headers and PSE on my stock . Even without a tune, in Sport mode my C2S/X51 backfires with flames. Sounds like loud gunshots when blipping or downshifting to a high rpm. With flames! I love em!
I'm old enough to remember those nice high octane smells my first 30 years of driving, and I still like that smell. And I don't live in a Greenie **** state with large polluted cities.
I did save my OEM cats for when I SELL or trade my 911. It's about 2 hours labor to change em.

This is a huge difference in .1 and .2 cars for anyone else wondering the merits of 2.5x better sounding.

On the .1 cars, deleting the cats causes a loss of tone but is very loud, metallic and race car like. It also loses some bottom end.

On the boosted cars, low end isn't an issue for power. Also, since the turbos themselves are in fact muffling the sound, deleting the cat has impact on how loud it is and retains a lot more tone.
