A little off topic, but if someone wants another lock key removal socket Amazon sells them. I got an extra one as a backup to keep in the garage:

Gotcha.

That statement ("due to the fact it's only a lock") confuses me somewhat, though. Not to beat this horse to death, but are you saying the security wheel bolt is "not as strong" as a regular wheel bolt? There are only five wheel bolts on the car; so it would surprise me greatly if one of them could not accept 118 ft lb. In fact, I was under the assumption that the only difference between a regular wheel bolt and a security wheel bolt was the heads, and that the bolt itself was made of the same material.

OK so tighten yours to 118 ft lbs.

Ok, now I’m really confused. Are you angry about the question?

if so, tell you what, just ignore my post. I’ll figure the answer out another way.

Ok so I did some more sleuthing on the question of wheel bolts, security and otherwise. Am not coming up with any guidance specific to the security wheel bolts. An online pdf of an early 991.1 manual I have located seems to indicate no difference in tightening torque for the security bolts (at least it's not mentioned, other than 118 lb ft.)

The security bolt seems to be made out of the same materials as the rest of the bolts, only difference is the head pattern made to match the security socket.

My experience with security bolts in the past wasn't great because of poor design and lack of sufficient mating surface between the socket and the fasteners.

The Porsche one seems stout and is a solid connection. I don't see why it should use a different torque. Torque values should be equal to avoid warping the rotors.

Anybody know where I can order a replacement adapter for the security wheel bolt(s), as pictured above? I think mine is "somewhere" in the garage after my brake service, but dang if I can find it. I am sure it's somewhere, and may turn up, but in the event I need another, I'd like to have a source of supply handy. I'm just needing the little steel adapter that has a standard 19 socket male on one side, and a splined female on the other to allow you to tighten/loosen the security bolt on each wheel.

Thanks!

Check with the dealer, Suncoast or Getporscheparts.com. You will probably have to supply some type of proof of ownership.

These are widely available from a number of suppliers. Contrary to some previous posts, they are not tied to your VIN number. Imagine the cost of making each one unique to each car. Proof of ownership is not required either.
The only difference is the number of splines internally as to the different sizes. You can actually buy a master set of various sizes.

Thanks @bb964 Bill. I had seen that but forgot about that post.

I found a wheel bolt + adapter at Pelican in stock of what I believe is the Porsche part no., 955-361-957-10-056, so I ordered one of those. Naturally, I expect to find the adapter when I sweep up this morning.

I am just about this " " close to ordering another four normal wheel bolts and taking these anti-theft bolts out next wheel swap. For me, this thing seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

Much obliged!

Plot thickens.

It seems that the Pelican part I ordered above does not fit the security bolt on my car. This part has 20 splines. The bolt on my car has a different number of splines. I've contacted Pelican to see if they can exchange this for the correct part.

I did some more research, and it seems there are at least five different security wheel bolt options, ranging from 19 splines to 23 splines.

I have worked out what I believe are the Porsche part numbers (and this is all conjecture at this point, except for the part ending -056) below. I've also added what I believe is the "Key" index / ID number, from aftermarket suppliers such as Temo.

955-361-957-10-055 (Key #55) 19 splines
955-361-957-10-056 (Key #56) 20 splines
955-361-957-10-057 (Key #57) 21 splines
955-361-957-10-058 (Key #58) 22 splines
955-361-957-10-059 (Key #59) 23 splines

Here is a picture of the set from Temo. I believe that the bolts on our cars are in the 3/4 (19.05mm) range, with pointed notches:

My car is needs #51 with 15 splines, note 51 stamped inside the factory key on the left, probably 955-361-957-10-051. #51 Temo is on the right.

A search by the partial part number brings back pages of these adapters with the last 3 digits matching the # on the Temo chart
