Somebody sells plastic versions of flat razor blades. They remove most of any wheel weight adhesive residue with no danger of damaging the wheel surface. After that most of the liquid cleaners suggested above will get the rest. Then cleaner/wax to finish.

Thanks, all. I'll get this sorted next week and report back.

The pictures scared the living crap out of me, but I checked and they're thankfully all dirt-deep.

I just went through removing wheel weight adhesive today. I used GooGone, Alcohol, a plastic putty knife, and polish with some success over an elapsed multi hour period to let the solvent soak in over multiple attempts. I almost got it all off. I went out and tracked down the 3M adhesive remover. Squirted some on a paper towel and the remaining adhesive wiped off like dirt on a window. Don't even waste your time with the others. Use the 3M product. Feel like a fool for trying to use what I had on hand versus running out to the auto parts store.

Yep. 3M is the real deal. They are still an industrial company that make things for automotive manufacturing and other ventures. When I need a specific material, like an adhesive for special materials, I can find dozens of options on their web site (and then find vendors, including Amazon).

I also taught my kids: only 3M makes tape. The other stuff is cheap imitation.

Just don't get the chemicals on the painted wheels... some will mark/etch them.

Had a shop get a little of something on a fuchs from one of my older cars and that cost them to refinish the wheels...

GOOP is the best, as it doesn't harm the finish and sits there the longest, dissolving the old adhesive.
When i removed the "911 Carrera S" pieces from the back, i tried everything else b4 trying GOOP, and GOOP was the only thing that worked. The rest of them ran downhill and evaporated quickly.

FWIW, I had wheels off and found some residue in a spot not removed from a recent tire change. Goop didn't want to work! Well, it worked OK to remove the foam bits with a plastic razor blade, but the glue residue it just wouldn't take off. Some rubbing alcohol did work well (on a rag).

Thanks for that. I've been looking for something to help get rid of a part sticker.

Update: I was on my way to purchase 3M Adhesive Remover, and called the indie shop that installed my tires instead. They asked me to bring the car back, and they removed the gunk in 20 minutes. Looked like the tech was using a soft steel wool brush and some goo-gone/WD-40. Process was a lot easier since I don't have access to a lift. Wheel weight marks are completely gone now, as if nothing was there before.

I ended up buying the adhesive remover on my drive home anyway. Thanks for the help!
