Default 991 C4S Water Pump Leaking

Hi All,

I have a 2013 991 C4S with a water pump that's leaking and needs to be replaced. I purchased the car CPO from a Porsche Dealer a little more than 3 years ago and the CPO warranty has expired. The car currently has 33,xxx on the odometer. My independent mechanic informed me that the water pump leaking is a very common and known issue with Porsche, and even new 911s leave the factory with leaking water pumps. He also mentioned that the dealer/PNA may cover the replacement of the water pump even when the car is out of warranty as it's a known flaw.

Any suggestions from folks out there on the forum who have had the same issue and have had good luck with your dealer and/or PNA covering the cost of replacing the water pump when the car is no longer under warranty? Appreciate any suggestions or feedback on how to go about this!

Cheers,

Nate

Well, after complaining to Porsche USA I only had to pay half the $3800. bill for a transfer case on our Cayenne (a known problem but no recall or clear redesign on the 958). However we were original owners and it was the third time on the same car the transfer case needed to be replaced. Foolishly I bought another 958 that needed a transfer case also (but in warranty)....Not sure the water pump on the 991.1 is a known issue I thought it was the 991.2.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to contact the Porsche dealer where you bought it. Yes, it's a known issue - search this forum. Ask (politely) for a "goodwill" repair. Chances are that you'll get some, if not all, of the repair cost covered. Good luck.

Usually it depends on where you bought the car (dealer or not), where it was serviced, how many you have owned, etc, The ‘relationship’ you have with your dealer and Porsche.

You can call Porsche NA directly to discuss. They would then contact the dealer to get more details. Many manufacturers will cover half the cost at times. What goes into the decision making process is unknown. It’s just good business sense and customer service to stand behind the product.
