Default Exhaust soot

Hi , I’m just curious to know if anyone had problems with their SOUL exhaust where there is exhaust soot dripping from the clamps.

My shop re-checked all the connections & it’s all tight. He said not much to do but overtime carbon build up will seal the exhaust .. can someone confirm this?

It only drips few second at cold start then stop completely, just enough to stain my nice garage floor.

LOL I just got the exhaust installed few weeks ago.

I’m used to see soot coming from exhaust tips but from clamps ?

Will it really go away with carbon build up?

The system came with clamps & it’s dripping from both sides.

I was just kidding around. When the engine is run hard/hot the exhaust burns away all the soot.
I'm not sure what causes carbon to escape or localize at the clamps, but it has been posted about I believe. I don't think it's something to worry about.

Mine does it all the time. 1 or 2 drips, then done. It washes right off with water.

It's just a function of a slip joint design. There has to be clearance between the two tubes in order for one to slide into the other, otherwise, you wouldn't be able to assemble the exhaust. That clearance is allowing the soot to seep through until the exhaust warms up. The system should be designed so that the smaller tube is the one that sees the hotter exhaust first. So it'll got hotter and expand more than the outer pipe and close up the gap. The only way I can think of eliminating the issue is to use some gasket maker between the two during assembly? I've never heard of anyone using exhaust gasket sealant on a slip joint though. And it would be hard to apply because the stuff is usually pretty thick.

Thank you everyone , I’m glad to hear it’s not a bad install issue.

Mike at Soul suggested to use sealant as well. But before going that route, I was hoping to hear if someone had that problem then it went away after few months / year of carbon build up.

Thank you for explaining the system, it makes a lot of sense. I understand better now the structure.

It’s just annoying when you have to wipe the garage floor every morning after starting the car. If only water like a/c condensation, it would be no worry but exhaust soot leaves stains.

Mine is quite a bit more than one to two drops. I have the soul package and my floor and wall are covered in the droplets.

Today I heard something as if really hot liquid was dripping onto something making a constant ticking/hissing sound. I only noticed this after a spirited drive and I turned her off in my garage. Was going to climb under tomorrow to see what it was.

Living in Orlando, it's way more humid. So all the water in the air, going through the engine, and then condenses making more water drops. As for the other sound.... possibly water coming off the A/C evaporator coil if you were running the A/C. I grew up in Gainesville, I don't miss the 90%+ humidity.

But don’t the exhaust expand when hot therefore sealing the exhaust pipings?

My drips stopped completely after literally 5 second after starting the car.

I have the AWE Switchpath and I get the drips on start up as well. Nothing more to tighten, so I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!
