New to me GTS

New to me GTS / Modification thread
Ever since doing my first Porsche Track experience, I have been interested in picking up a 991.2 GTS for semi-daily driving duties. I loved the blend of GT3 and Carrera S. Sporting interior and overtones, but a bit more relaxed and easier to live with on a daily basis. Being that these are a somewhat rare variant of the 991, it took me two years of looking every week or so until I found what I was looking for. I wanted a blue one, and fairly high spec...but no ceramics and really no sunroof, though I knew the last item was going to be difficult to find in combination with everything else on my wish-list.
About a week ago I was surfing the forums and came across a very stunning 17 Night blue metallic GTS with a ton of options popped up. Metallic blue? Check. GTS interior? Check. The rest was gravy. It has a sun-roof, but it'll just stay ignored like it does in my other vehicles with them. I really love the alcantara GTS interior. Smells great, and really adds an excellent nuance to the interior. I like the feel of it. I also like that this car was specced with the leather steering wheel, which keeps it from becoming matted down like alcantara wheels tend to do over time.
I drove it nearly 6 hours home. The drive was great. The car sounds excellent and even the symposer doesn't bother me. It is smooth and quiet when it needs to be, with a bit of exhaust bark with the valves open as well. I plan on getting some sport cats soon and opening up the exhaust a bit more. Love the color. It reminds me a bit of my old tanzanite blue F80 M3. The metallic flake is really something in the sunlight. The power is fine. I find myself wanting a bit more midrange torque, but I can see why Porsche tuned it the way that they did, as the factory flash is much more suited to track work where a swell of torque in the midrange would just upset the balance of the car coming out of wide open throttle corners.
Intercooling appears to be a weak spot on these cars even with the factory programming based on the data I've seen. Any car using boundary layer air to cool the ICs (yes I know when the wing is up it forces a good bit more air down the IC ducts) isn't going to have a great intake air temp suppression system. Sounds like some AMS or equivalent coolers would add a lot of consistency even if not modifying the ECU.
Got the car home yesterday and cleaned up about half way to my admittedly fairly OCD standards. It has a date with my paint guy for a good correction and ceramic coating. The entire front clip already has PPF, but I like to always remove the factory clear film over the rear fender area and extend it much larger with a custom piece for much better protection. There's some wax residue here and there that'll need to be cleaned up, but overall the car is in remarkably excellent shape inside and out. I had a set of GT3RS side sills from my GT3 touring that I previously had, and threw those on once I got home as well. The look is much improved.
Anyway, just saying hello. I have owned quite a number of 991s (6 I believe now) and have really enjoyed all of them. Hope that continues with this car, but so far so good. I'm extremely happy with it.
On the drive home:
Impressive mileage. About 210 miles of the trip was pure highway with the cruise set between 82-84.
Interior looks great. Not even any creases on the outside driver's side bolsters.
Before and after 3RS side sills

Congratulations on your purchase! The metallic blue is quite stunning visually. Many of our customers have the GTS model or GTS turbos on their 991.2s. Our Vektor Performance headers combined with intercoolers, sport cats, and a tune is a proven combination to enhance power and sound. As you correctly noted, the stock intercoolers with the lack of direct airflow is a bottleneck and it can be improved upon with upgraded intercoolers. The stock log manifold headers are a performance bottleneck also of course. You can review some of our customers' experience in the following thread.

Glad you made it home safely. It was hard to let it go but with incoming Targa GTS, couldn't justify keeping both. Targa has been on my wife's wish list for many years, we were lucky to be able to find one with as many great options at a super discount.

Beautiful, Congrats! Any reason you went to a GTS? I see your sig says GT3RS and you also stated you had a touring? I just am having a hard time right now wanting to switch out of my 991.2 GTS. I have went 991.1 GTS PDK, 2018 GT3 MT, 991.2 GTS 7MT, and now am on the look again for a 18 GT3 6MT. Just hoping some of your advice can help me stay in my current lane.

I plan on semi-daily driving it. I love the GT3s, had two 991 GT3s the last being the touring. They are phenomenal cars, but not one I would particularly like to daily drive mostly because I want to preserve the event of driving them. I sold the touring because while it drove and performed like a GT3, it didn’t really have the looks to set me on fire. So I bought the RS and sold the touring after a couple months with the RS. The RS is the most amazing vehicle I have ever owned. So visceral. Such an event to look at and drive.
To sum it up, the GTS combines a lot of the sporty features I love in a GT3 with the more relaxed nature of the non-GT 911. Though they look similar, the drive is very different and much more suited to daily use.

Congrats! I remember this car, very good deal considering the build/condition. Try to "sell" it to a buddy who is on/off market but not his cup of tea. Anyway, you got a really handsome car & great deal I'd say, congrats again and enjoy in good health!
