Default Targa Headliner Failure

Well, I am at 2 years 11 months of ownership and have had only one other issue (SAT radio antenna)...put the top down today and when I put it back up I noticed the cord that pulls the headliner taut had separated. I will call the dealership on Monday, but wanted to see if anyone else had this issue, or let folks know that IF you own a Targa and use the top, this might be coming your way...I am pretty surprised that they (Porsche) would use something like this in the top (it looks like para-cord). I also noticed some discoloration, that looks like the top leaked, but I never saw any H2O in the car. I will keep the forum posted.

That looks nasty...mine is fine and I use the top all the time albeit only 6k miles - how many miles on yours? Make sure you follow up with how this is resolved.

I am at 29K Miles (2015) and take my top up and down constantly. No issues whatsoever at this point. Hope your’s is a fluke.

That looks terrible. I use mine quite a but and haven’t had that.

on a separate note how are you guys maintaining your tops? Are you spraying the convertible protection spray on it annually? I haven’t figured out how to do it without getting the chemical on the rubber seals

Update: I forgot to add that I have 13,800 miles...Like all that have responded, I use my top frequently. I hope it is a fluke as well. Calling my service advisor tomorrow.

As for maintenance, I clean and treat regularly with 303, I really haven't had any issues until now.

2014 here with 45K miles. Use top often in the non-winter months. No issues with my top. Sad to see that happen to yours. Hope they treat you right.

As for the top treatment question, I too use 303 and use a small paint roller to apply it. Works great. Quick and easy, with no mess.

Update - I called my SA yesterday to discuss the top failure, the car is still under warranty, so no worries there. I think the thing that surprised me the most was that when I started describing it, he was familiar. I asked if there was a TSB, nope. I also asked about the frequency that they had seen this issue (not very frequent, but enough that he knew exactly what I was describing). He didn't indicate that it was going to be a challenging fix, so we will see. Car goes in tomorrow and I will ask a few more questions.

I wanted to throw it out to the Targa owners and see if anyone had a question they wanted asked. Let me know, I am scheduled to drop the car off 17 June @ 0900 EDT.

Cool, keep us posted. Ask them if there are places that should be lubed periodically. And also, if there are any known rattles from the passenger's side B pillar area.

Hey Bob, I have a minor rattle from the passengers side B pillar. Any hints or known issues I can look into?

Try pressing on the area below where the seat belt buckle comes out to see if that stops it. I am not sure how to take that piece off though. There is another thread with "rattles" in the title so look at that as well since I posted some pics of other places I put some foam. I think there is also a thread about Targa rattles where others have worked in the interior cross bar.

303 Fabric Protectant, which I have been using on vert tops for years. A small roller works well on the big areas but I always tend to need a small brush for the edges/seams.

No issues at 6,000 miles, but now I'm worried. Bought new in 1/18 and believe I have 4 year warranty.
