Default Trickle Charger Question

I have a new to me 991.2 (with a no-smoker package). I wen't to plug my Porsche trickle charger (that I used to use on both my 997s) in to the passenger footwell outlet and it appeared to work fine. However, after a while it stopped working. I presume this is because the outlet cuts off after 30 minutes? Other than connecting to the battery directly, is there any way around this?

Thanks.

Mark.

My ‘17 991.2 seems to charge at the passenger footwell socket fine for multiple days. I’m not sure why some car’s sockets don’t stay on. I have the smoker package. That outlet works also.

Wish I could think of something other than a direct connect, sorry.

My '18 GTS doesn't have the smoking package either. There is only one 12v outlet in the car. It's in the passenger footwell. I've plugged my Battery Tender into this outlet for extended time periods (i.e.: weeks) and it works just fine. I don't understand why your car shuts down the outlet after ~30 minutes.

Thanks. You encourage me to try again. The light appears to go out, but I will double check.

Try locking your doors after you have things all set up.

Neither of my 12V outlets turn off during battery maintainer support. But I do sometimes have to take my key into the car and turn the ignition switch on and then off, to get the maintainer connected thru either outlet and charging. Then it stays working for a week, 2 weeks or whatever.

I connect direct to terminals. My maintainer will turn off at full charge and back on as needed to maintain full charge.

Thank you. I will try this. My garage is secure (and covered by an alarm), so I don't normally lock the car.

I brought up this topic in 2016 when I got my 991.1GTS. Plugged it in the center console, passenger footwell, locked the doors and my car would power off after about 10 minutes no matter what. If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears👂!

So how have you been maintaining your battery for the past 4 years? I would try direct connect to the battery or at least try a different battery maintainer. I assume you are using ctek.

My 16 GTS would go into “sleep mode” when I tried the Porsche battery maintainer. I hard wired a CTEK maintainer to the battery and it works fine. I believe CTEK makes the Porsche unit too.

Al.Fresco,

Can I just say, Thank You! I would never have even thought to try this. But, yes, if you lock the doors the socket continues to stay live. Been on for 24 hours now and all is well.

This. ^ My tender lead comes out at the base of the windshield. If my battery dies I can plug in to get enough juice to open the frunk.
