Just got my oil analysis back from Speedignostix. Car is a 2013 C2S purchased as a CPO in April of 2019 with 58k miles. The dealership did a service on the car before shipping it to me. The oil I sent off for analysis was 1 year old and had 6k miles on it.
I will be shortening my oil change interval to 6 months and 5k miles. I'm currently using Torco SR1 10w40 which was recommended by a local shop in SoCal. Anyone have experiences with Torco oil? Any downsides to running a 10w winter weight on these engines? I live in Southern California.
Next oil change, I'll be trying out Mobil 1 5w50. Overall, I'm very happy with the results and it's a huge relief not seeing a high amount of wear metals.
Would appreciate any thoughts/analysis from forum members regarding my sample.
I have no experience with that oil. Lots seem to prefer 5W50 around here, especially in a warmer climate like yours or for harder driving. I run M1 0W40, but plan to switch to 5W50 at some point.
I don’t like that this company does not show the normal ranges. Why not if they are comparing your actual readings to a list of normal ranges. Seems weird. From the many M1 0W40 UOA results that have been posted, the viscosity results are the same as Blackstone results show, namely out of spec. It would be great to hear what Mobil would say about these results from multiple companies that provide UOA.
There is one brand Porsche recommends for their engines and its Mobil 1.
I don't understand, why you want to switch? What benefit behind it? It's the optimum for my Porsche engine. If there would be better oil, I'm quite positive Porsche would tell us.

Actually....Mobil-1 offered to pay the most money to Porsche to recommend them out of all the oil companies. It's literally a marketing deal.
It's not a bad oil, but depending on your specific conditions (climate, type of use {track vs street}, etc.) Mobil 1 might not be the best oil for your 911.

I would agree with Kayaker. Any oil that is A40 certified should be good right? Then why does the M1 0W40 regularly test out of normal range for viscosity. For those that want to continue using it, go right ahead, but having a UOA of another oil that stays in spec makes me feel better.

Class5, I'm surprised to see a post like this from you. Your posts are usually very strong. I disagree with you. I've spent a lot of time with the Mobil people at the USA race circuit for Porsche, to know it's NOT a marketing deal. I respect your opinion either way.

That's what I've been told on several different brand European cars I've owned. I also read that Porsche changed what brand they recommend in the past for the exact same model car (switched from Shell to Mobil).
Bottom line is so long as it meets the manufacturer's standard (i.e. LL01 for my wife's X5, A40 for Porsche 991s, etc.) the brand shouldn't matter as far as warranty, etc. and some brands might be better suited for your 991 than Mobil 1 depending on your specific conditions/use.

Only if it benefited their marketing optics / budget IMO.
Mobile 1 is good oil. I typically use it.
The best?
Unlikely, depends on use case.
Whatever you choose, you're on the right path, change often and get oil analysis done.
That way you build your own personal database.
For comparison, heres my report at, 64K-ish, same year, same model. Oil is Motul 8100 5W/40
-R
Very interesting that the Motul 5W40 also doesn’t test in spec for viscosity. Seems like the 0/5W40 just can’t pass muster. And your NA 991.1 obviously is a different engine that then the TT 991.2 so you can’t change blame it on the engine/oil combo.
So many questions. I contacted Mobil today and forwarded some test result and will wait to hear back on what they say. The easy answer is to use Mobil 1 5W40 in regions that have low temps above -13F.
After 8 years of reading the posts on this site I am beginning to realize that oil changing frequency and selection discussions are very similar to political or religious posts. All include strongly held beliefs and comments. LOL
oh, I frequent the church of Mobil 1 0-40 at 5k intervals with a filter....
