I am confused. I am looking at 991's. I thought they started in 2013 but i see some 2012's for sale that look like a 997 on the back end still and some look like a 991 with the new tail lights and spoiler.
The 997 and the 991 were both sold in the 2012 model year in the United States. I had a 991 launch car that was built in November 2011, as a 2012 model year car (often referred on here as a “2012.5”).
They do this all the time. Certain versions will be available at launch - I think for the 991 it was the Carrera and Carrera S in 2012. The 4/4S, Targa, Turbo, GT cars, etc all came later (2013 or beyond). The GTS is usually halfway through the cycle to breathe life back into the line. So if you bought a 4S or a turbo in 2012, it was a 997.2, not a 991.1.
Same with the 992 where you could only buy a 2S/4S in coupe or convertible as a 2020, now they are introducing the 992 turbo, as a 2021 etc.
