The airbags are the same but what trim are you referring to?

The multi function buttons and the plastic surrounds
Also the triangular center surround like this one :

The trim is the same (https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUSWTBLK.html) so I think it is safe to assume the rest is as well.

Ok, so seriously considering buying a non GT wheel in leather with red stitching
I can get one off ebay for a very good price
I have read somewhere that the non GT steering wheel feels cheaper because the stitching is of a lesser quality, not sure this is true
Anyone handled both of them and could clarify ?

Hi MacFever.
Can I ask what project you are working on? I swapped a .1 wheel with a .2 wheel recently and learned some valuable lessons, as noted here https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1175...xperience.html. If you are trying to build a custom .2 wheel for a .1 swap, make sure you get a wheel with the airbag retainer.
I also confirm the trim fits either the standard or sport sized wheels.

I think our posts crossed at the same time. I haven't heard of a stitching quality concern, but I'd suggest going the custom route if you have a 991.2 as you will be able to swap parts more easily. Check out the Ledermanz guy. He can make anything you like, in any color; note that my wheel is thicker than factory and closer in size to the 992 wheel thickness.
Also, the size of the wheel is noticeable while driving. Its a great upgrade.

That shouldn't be a problem. You don't need to use the stock as a core in most cases. You will just need to transfer over the airbag retainer and springs from your current 991.2 wheel into the custom wheel, and then if you swap back, transfer them back. Let me know if there is something I am misunderstanding. Good luck with the mods.

Is it true that if you want to change the steering wheel trim; say from shiny aluminum to black. You have to actually remove the wheel?!?
