Default Wheel spacer torque vs no spacer torque

I’ve got a set of wheel spacers I want to use on my 991.2 T and the torque recommendations for the spacers is 83ft lbs. Porsche recommends 118ft lbs of torque on a 991.2 T. How tight would you guys go and why?

Sorry, who is recommending 83 ft lb?

The instructions / parameters that come with the wheel spacers recommend a torque setting of 83 ft lbs of toque. Porsche recommends the bolts that pass through the wheels tighten to 118 ft lbs. If I tighten the bolts to 118, I would be over tightening the spacers to the wheel hub by 35 ft lbs. I’m wondering what others do that have a similar decision to make on how tight to go.

Again, "...who is recommending..."?

I recently added Porsche 5mm spacers and used Porsche recommended 118 ft/lb with the extended bolts Porsche supplied. The bolts and hubs can handle this. Can the bolts you're using, that are supplied by ???, handle it?

83 ft-lbs / 112 N-m is VW 4-bolt 15” wheel spec.

Assuming that you have the same architecture of spacer everyone else has that slips onto the hub and through which the lug bolts run...

You will need longer lug bolts. Longer by however thick is the spacer.

You will use Porsche’s spec for these longer bolts: 118 ft-lbs / 160 N-m.

The spacer does not GAF about wheel bolt torque.

Wheel spacers are from Blox Sport, see the recommendations in the picture below.

Using only 70% of required torque on a wheel lug nut is ... your choice.

You can:
- buy an OE spacer set that comes with everything you need and torque to the factory spec
- contact bloxsport and ask them why their recommended torque is only 70% of that required by the manufacturer

Probably doesn't matter much. I thought 85-90 ft lbs was sufficient on most any vehicle until this one. I went with 90 ft lbs when I installed my spacers until I realized the spec was 118 ft lbs and then re torqued..

Honestly I think the 118 ft/lbs is too much. I also have wheel spacers and I ended up over torquing and stripping a lug bolt.

@damien996 What spacers did you order? I went to see if I could figure this out but locate any 10mm spacers on the BLOX web site. They list four; 5mm, 15mm, 30mm and 35mm being available for Porsche? Are the ones you have 7075-T6?

In any event I agree with @worf928 that unless they are made of Swiss Cheese, a properly designed spacer needs to be installed with OEM wheel bolt torque values, 118 ft lbs in this case.

I bought a lightly used set from a PCA member, they’re 10mm. I didn’t see them on the website for Blox, but I found a listing on eBay. They seem to check all the right boxes for the spacers and bolts, 7075-T6 and 12.9 grade bolt strength but the torque suggestion on eBay is lower then Porsche recommends, I wonder if this is a typo on eBay. I did contact BLOX directly to ask for information because they didn’t list the 10mm spacers on their website and wanted clarification for torque. I didn’t see any torque recommendation on the Blox website which makes me think we would tighten according to our vehicle recommendations. Since I never encountered this I thought this would be a good question here and the replies by everyone are much appreciated.

Did you get longer bolts?

note Porsche rims require Porsche specific bolts w R8 cone for contact with the rim. Use Porsche recommended wheel torque

Yes, the bolts are longer to fit the 10mm spacers. I’m going to torque to Porsche recommendations and check the lug bolts regularly to make sure there’s no change in the torque. I expect these to be high quality and if they’re not up to standards, I’ll replace with Porsche lug bolts.
