Does anyone know if it’s possible to see the part no. of the water pump from an external inspection? As in, can I elevate the rear and check underneath with a light to see the numbers on the pump?

I don’t have any leaks on my CPO ‘17, but I’m curious whether it has the original pump.

 

2017 C2, 18k miles, in for 3 yr maintenance and the dealerships saw a leak, being replaced under warranty.

 

Mine just replaced under warranty. 2017 with 17K miles.

 

Off topic, but what is the 3yr maintenance? I thought maintenance was every 2yr.

 

Your dealer service shop should be able to look this up in the Porsche system under your VIN, and tell you...

 

Porsche requires service depending on time &/or mileage. Check your maintenance booklet that came with your car. It covers this in detail.

 

Thanks for this very helpful answer. If you've read the manual, then you'd also notice that service intervals are every 2y, and the only off cycle things are Oil every 10k and Plugs every 30k. That's why I asked what David was getting done for his 3y maintenance.

 

I'm kinda new to this so a little learning as I go, here's the back story.

Got my 2017 CPO in May of last year with 11K miles, they had just done the 10,000 mile maintenance (dealership in Florida) and I was told to bring it in for the next maintenance either in a year or when I hit 20K. My local dealer felt that given the car is now 3 years old (even with only 18K miles) that we should be doing the 3 yr, 30K mile maintenance that had a few extra things (I'd have to look at what the extra things to check were - I'm actually picking it up this afternoon). It was during this maintenance that they found the water pump leak.

Maybe they just added the offcycle stuff to the 2yr 20k to be sure? I'll update this once I'm home and list what they did.

 

That makes sense, better to be safe with some extra maintenance, can't hurt. And double good, since they found the water pump issue while it was there.

 

After reading about all these water pump issues, I looked under my car and noticed possible leakage. I brought it to my dealer today who confirmed there is leaking around the pump although pressure appeared to be ok for the time being. They are ordering a new pump, so I will give an update once it's fixed later this week.

2018 GTS failed at 10000 miles. Replaced under warranty.

Off topic and my respect to the OP, however related; Has anyone had any further water pump problems since their water pump was replaced? Please only post if yes.

2019 Carrera GTS. Built Nov 2019. Now at 11,700 miles. No issues so far. I wouldn’t dismiss 2019+ cars as having zero issues. Some of the 2020 992s are having water pump issues too. There’s a thread about it over in the 992 forum.

 

I' m new to Porsche after having Ferrari's for 20 yrs. why does Porsche have so many water pump failures in so many model years?
Mine has failed, 2017 Carrera with 8,000 miles and it being replaced as we speak. Thought Porsche could get this right . This seems more like a Ferrari type problem where the same problem, like melting headers affected multiple model years and never got corrected.
