Assist with Add-A-Fuse in Passenger Fuse Box
#16
Reviving an old thread, but just did an install of the into my (new to me) Cayman S 981.
The allows it to hardwire into the fusebox but it's up to you to find a switched or constant fuse. The 981 has a 30-min cut off feature for all accessories as I believe the 991 does as well, so the cigarette socket fuses (passenger side, D8-D10 in the 981) won't work for parking mode, unless you only park for 30 mins.
So I began testing a few fuses and landed at the "Steering Column Adjustment" fuse (passenger side fuse box, C8) and that runs on constant current! Tapped into that, and with no problems fitting the fuse box cover back over it.
Now parking mode works like a charm, and the Vantrue S1 hardwire kit has a module that detects when the battery hits 12V and cuts the parking mode off, so your car won't go flat. I had the same set up in my 996 Turbo and I was able to record parking mode for 2 full days before it hit 12V, and the car started up fine after a week went by too.
Hope this helps anyone!

Thank You Supreme996!!!
That last post saved me from alot of frustration and a nervous breakdown 😅😅😅
I have installed a 3 channel Viofo A229 Pro with their HK4 hardwiring kit and after pulling the cables down to the passenger foot well - and managing to break that notorious plastic pin behind the carpeted fuse box panel... 🤬🤬🤬 even though I knew it was there and very delicate - I couldn't keep the camera alive in parking mode by connecting for continuous power on C4 as suggested in another thread. Apparently C4 is always on 991.2 cars.
To recap.
If you hardwire a camera / radar detector or anything else in a 991.1 S car (2012-2016), you get continous voltage on C8 and switched voltage at D2!
I have been following many car/motorcycle fora over the years but this is by far the best!

Car is now equipped with a front and rear camera, with parking mode. Installed everything last Friday and it works perfectly. Dashcam also switches to parking mode, when i turn the ignition off.
I have used D15 for switched power en E14 for always hot power.
