Default Experience with Mckenna or Newport Porsche in California

Looking at several leftover new 2019s at these two dealerships. If I do purchase , I will need to get the vehicle shipped to the Midwest. Has anyone had any experiences , good or bad , with purchases from these dealerships? Thanks.

I bought a car at McKenna and have nothing negative to report. They have been in business there for many years.
Best of luck and I hope you have a good purchase experience.

Second for McKenna, broken promises. Go to Newport!

McKenna tried to tack on "dealer premium" pricing after quoting me sticker on a 911.50 back in 2015. I walked and have never been back.

Conversely, I have had several transactions with Porsche of Irvine without drama. Note that both Porsche of Irvine and Porsche of Newport are Autonation dealers.

If Porsche of Newport = Porsche of Newport Beach; I bought my (new, leftover 2019) T there. The experience overall was very good; I did most of it remotely and completed the test drive and purchase in person. Everything was pretty transparent and friendly, all the paperwork was handled properly, I did not get any sleazeball hard sales tactics at all. I would not expect mega discounts, but I didn't feel ripped off either - they seem willing to deal if you are a serious buyer.

Mckenna didn't even acknowledge me as a buyer when I walked in. They literally ignored me like I couldn't possible be there to buy a car. lol. I walked out after 15 minutes.

Newport acknowledged me and was helpful. But they didn't have the spec I wanted. They have been good on service the two times Ived used them for simple things.

Irvine Porsche sold me my GTS. But it was a nightmare to buy and service was a pain in the ***.

Circle Porsche has the best inventory if you ask me. They always seem to have cars with all the right options. Service department is 2nd to none if you ask me. And they are privately owned! Not autonation BS.

Hope that helps.

If you are shipping it elsewhere why does it matter! Get the best price and move on!

Same happened to a buddy of mine at Mckenna. If they would have bothered to talk to him, they would have learned he has a GT3RS. Their loss of a sale.

Not everyone has the same experience. I can say that I've had great experiences with both. A 2013 Carrera S from McKenna and my current GT3 from Newport. Martin at Newport has always been great. Straight shooter.

But like most guys, I'll go where the car and spec I want is. I always check inventory online and find something they definitely don't have in stock. Then "settle" on the car I'm after when they move mountains to sell it to me.

It's been said before but buy a car at the very end of the month, on a weekend if possible and later in the evening in a Sunday is best when almost everyone is gone. They start giving you stuff just to get out of there and slip in another sale before their month ends.

I bought from McKenna Friday night and got a text from the owner Danny McKenna Tuesday morning. His personal cell stating "if they dropped the ball" call him. They did not! I also liked my sales rep (Dominic), stayed in contact with what I was looking for and was patient. I will buy from them again and I have 3 dealerships closer, including Newport.

I had a bad Service experience with Porsche of Irvine (AutoNation same as Newport) and two excellent ones with McKenna. Bryce Walters is a very good Service Writer I would strongly recommend. As has been said experiences can be all over the board but as a general rule I will go with Owner/Operator over Corporate Owned if given a choice and the deal similar. Danny McKenna has a slogan "If you give me your cell number I will give you mine" and his Father was in the Porsche business many moons ago so there is a legacy.

To add a data point, just had a thermostat done at McKenna and was impressed. They had the lowest quote, which I was ready to have be wrong, but they met and beat their estimate. Everything was done perfectly.

This also includes multiple so cal Porsche repair shops who were also priced higher than McKenna, not to mention the one who had issues doing it the last time. (was running a motorsports low temp Tstat)

Now have a reliable so cal shop, and never imagined it'd be a dealer. McKenna.
