I went from a 981 gt4 to the 911T and have no regrets other than missing that awesome exhaust note! If you do more track driving then go for the gt4. If you do more street driving, go with the 911T. If you get the t, go for the manual if possible!

The 718 GT4 seems to be that much better than its predecessor and that is damn good. Like everyone says, if this is not your primary, I would go with the GT4, otherwise stick with the T.

It looks like you live up north so you may need to add different tires to the GT4 if you want to keep putting the big miles on it. The GT4 Cup 2 tires it comes with are especially sensitive to cold temps – I read somewhere they’ll go out-of-round in the 30’s.

Grappled with the same decision myself but decided to keep the T since I daily it. If the GT4 came with shorter gearing and non-cup tires though…

I think you should drive the GT4. You have a nice car already but the GT4 could be a special car. With only the GT3 offering somewhat affordable NA performance the GT4 seems like it could be a special ride based on the info I've seen.
A ride will tell you what you need to know. It's your $'s, it's your call.

Albeit it was a 981 GT4, but I preferred the T. Gearing and the torque got me.

For the past 2 years I wanted a GT4. Had been holding out for the release of the new models. Would still be waiting!!!

I had heard about the gearing, but didn't really believe it.
Test drove a couple GT4s along with a couple manual Ts
And it took like three days for it to sink in
The GT4 sounded awesome
But the T was much more engaging, seemed faster, and with the LWB and reduce sound deadening, seemed just as "special".
I used all three first gears and really enjoyed the 2-3 and 3-2 transitions.
But in the GT4, I just sat in 2nd during all the "fun" roads I test drove on.

Maybe not 100% comparable, but for fun back road, weekend driving, staying in 2nd for nearly the entire drive, until 80+ lost the engagement and point of a manual. And while not the new models, all the reviews point to a similar experience.

Great thread here. Seems to be a few of us that went from the 987/981 platform into the CT. The CT ticks a lot of boxes as a DD, and even the odd track day can be fun.

The GT4 that I drove was super RAW and exciting but I think as a DD I would tire of it after some period of time. Even the CT, with its open exhaust I've tired of and pretty much now drive it in Normal mode with the irritating Auto-off turned off.

I think a big part of Porsche choices does come down to the decision to daily-drive or not. If you commute to work, then pick up a Tesla or something and have a more raw Porsche for the weeknight and weekend romps. Want to daily a Porsche, like myself 80% of the time? Drive a Porsche like the CT, or even a Cayman or Boxster. I love my Spyder, but can't remember the last time I drove it. I live a somewhat busy life and my go-to ride is the CT or if the weather sucks, a simple Golf.

To the OP, sounds like with many of us, you have been bitten by the PADD (Porsche Attention Deficit Disorder), I wish you well, you're going to need it!

Alright guys, thanks for all the awesome responses! Every single comment here was informative and enlightening, to say the least.

I’ve decided to give up the GT4 allocation and stick with the T. Honestly, the T makes me very happy but as we all know here on Rennlist, the upgrade bug is real and likes to bite from time to time. That, plus the solid trade-in deal on my T had me seriously considering the move. Instead, I’ve decided to show my T some love. So I went and got her thoroughly detailed, and right now she looks drop dead gorgeous.

I daily my Porsches, and the T is much more practical than my 981 was. And it’s an all round great car no matter the occasion. So yeah, for my purposes the T is perfect. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Cheers!

Great decision. (Actually, there was no wrong or bad choice--it's all good.)

That newest, shiny toy thing has a strong gravitational pull, so it's good to be reminded that we don't always have to succumb.

Enjoy your T!

Good decision to keep the Carrera T. I simply love mine. The Cayman is an amazing handling car and the NA 4.0 and “get a new car” bug makes some sense, but the T is a 911 and the Cayman is a Cayman. IMHO it’s a step backwards.

That’s debatable. In this case, a GT4 is a better car than your base 911, not the T, but base. Drivers get it, others don’t. Others would think that one couldnt afford a 911, so they got a cayman. Not knowing what a GT4 is.

I think you might need to define the term "drivers".

Most know what we mean by "drivers". I'll put this scenario out there, you are offered to buy either a base 911 or a Cayman GT4, which do you buy? Again, there are a range of "types" of drivers, and each will answer differently.

Default 911t

Used to drive a 981 S. Never tracked it and it was a garage queen. Sold due to need for a spot for car seat.

Ended up getting a 991.2 C2S!
wow.... in love with this car. I track it. It’s almost my DD but I have a 4Runner also and shares DD duties when parking is dangerous...

I’ve added headers, sport cars which I recently changed to cat bypass and COBB.

My plan is to drive it until the tires fall off or I win lotto!

GT4 is special... but I’m not sure how it will be as a DD.
