Default Cannon Ball / OLOA 2020 - Preparation for One Lap Of America 2020

So I have been scouring the internet, boards, bugging experts and posting some weird questions all in preparation for One Lap of America (OLOA) in 2020. This year we are running for Shadow Buddies Charity again trying to better our total donations of $78,000 in 2018. After getting lucky running my stock 991.1 Turbo S in 2018 and missing 2019 due to health issues we are looking to makeup for last year in 2020! The car choice was hard for this year as the Turbo did so well but is a bit heavy. My .2 GT3 was the next option but after getting some break in miles and finally being able to give it some stick it was apparent that it was down on power, a key ingredient to a good OLOA car. So I decided to order a RWD GTS in a way the red headed step child of the Turbo and GT3. When the car delivered to my local dealership, Aristocrat Motors in Kansas Ciyt, they flashed a Champion/GAIC tune that resulted in 500+WHP. To protect the car for the nearly 5,000 mile venture we put clear bra on the car, added Zunsport Grills, Rennline Tow hooks, mudflaps and called good. With some help from DSC/TPC we fitted some suspension bits, Signature Wheels hooked me up with light weight wheels and we added some brake lines and pads from Essex. The car is pretty stock in hopes that we can keep it on the road.

So I wanted to extend a big thank you to all that have help us get to this point including those that have answered our silly questions here.

We plan to be at Road Atlanta with Chin Track Days this weekend for some testing, hope to see you guys there!

One lap is something that I always thought would be an awesome adventure, but lack of funds, driving talent and initiative have kept me from attempting it. Best of luck!

It is a blast and none of the above should stop you! Last year I was going to take a Hellcat just to enjoy the trip. It is just like a Racing Summer Camp, we all want to win but 95% are just there to have fun! I am happy to give some pointers if you ever want to take the plunge.

One Lap has been a dream of mine for 20 years... I might actually get to do it in 2 years. I'm about to start a job with unlimited PTO, but I'll need 2 years to get a car ready

Your photo shows 2 tires on top. Where are the other 2 tires?

You are correct, we can only use one spare per the rules and since the 911 cant run square we have to bring the pair along.

Don't spend you time prepping for the event, just get a stock car change the brake fluid, pads maybe, put on the regulation tire and go have fun. I promise that waiting like I did to enter the race is a mistake.

Who knows I might end up in a SUV, HellCat, Wagon...... next year just so I can go out and have some fun.

But I have many acquaintances at the company already and they actually are reasonable about letting people take vacations. All must be approved by the manager of course, but the company has a healthy culture.

I'm in the middle of a big power project car build which won't handle sustained road course use. Cooling, brakes, transmission, diff, none of them will handle power output which will be double stock for any type of road course use. It'll be a fun weekend/auto-x car though! I'll have to sell it to get a car better suited to OLOA.

Are the spare tires Non-directional? Or is it not an issue really?

Well we made it down the Atlanta and back in one piece. Surprisingly the first outing in the car modified was exceptional, we had zero issues with the roof rack system, upgrades.... The Chin Track days was fantastic, we had more time than we needed to sort out the car and even got Pro Driver Jade Buford in the car for short shake down. I was very humbled by him but was also thrilled to hear his feedback that the car was well sorted! Below are a few video's for in car of my first session and Jade's fast lap.

Current modifications:
  • Tractive Dampers with 70/130 KG/MM Springs
  • DSC Sport Shock Controller
  • TPC Bars (Front Full Soft, Rear Full Stiff)
  • Michelin Pilot 4S (30-32 PSI Hot is sweet Spot)
  • Factory Ride Height with 2.0° Front Camber & 2.2° Rear Camber
  • Champion/GIAC Boxed Tune
  • RSL29 Pads Front & Rear
  • Spiegler Front Stainless Lines
  • Tarrett Brake Studs Front
