I despise message boards with too many forums. This feels right, honestly. If you follow this line of thinking down its logical path, you end up with a forum for every version and flavor and model of car, and that would suck.

I can see the other points here, but resonate with the above. 991.1 and 991.2 share—in both concept and detail—the majority of their body, trim, interior, electricals, suspension, brakes, and transmissions. Yes, some of those areas were changed with the 991.2, but I can see wanting to know about that as a 991.1 owner—particularly if the .2 change can be incorporated in a .1. Likewise, if there are things that are known faults in a .1 that are likely to carry forward into the .2, I want to know about that. A split would also mean four forums for the 991...when the Carrera-line models are similar in philosophy whether .1 or .2 just as they are for the GT3 and Turbo models.

There weren't enough 991.2s then to justify it. There are now, and the conversations on the two are generally quite different.

Nothing new

and proves I have owned too many 911's..... or maybe I haven't?

Besides all that TURBO envy i went from a 991.1 S to a 991.2 S lol

are you equating the subtle internal differences between 997.1 and .2 cars (aside from dumping dual row IMS and adding DFI) to the absolute opposite inception, delivery and execution of the 991.2 engine ? (when compared to 991.1)

As a relatively new 991.1 owner, I would welcome a split, but that train sailed in 2016.

I’m pretty new here, but based on what I’ve seen so far, there is much more that the .1 and .2 have in common than they don’t. I also think the forum is at the right level, activity and topic wise.

So, I would not support a split.

I agree - I vote to keep them together although this is not a democratic forum so my vote means absolutely nothing. And besides, I do not want to go to a separate forum to belittle people (and vice versa I'm sure).

What about having a separate 991.1 base carrera forum and a separate 991.1 Carrera S forum. Maybe we should, among those, have separate forms for those with and without aero kits, Bose sound systems and 19” vs. 20” wheels!

Let's see...

991.1 vs 991.2 significant differences:
engine
engine-related stuff

991.1 vs 991.2 generally shared components:
body
interior
brakes
wheels
suspension
accessories
driver adventures
discussions about ownership
discussions about relations with dealers, service departments, insurance
discussions that go a bit off topic but still relate to all 991s

I do not want to scan separate 991 forums to look for things that apply to both generations.

I've owned my 991.1 for about three months now and have been perusing the forums. This post caught my eye because I have wondered the same thing. Yes, they are obviously very similar, but there is a MAJOR difference - the engine. This means that pretty much everything tuning/turbo-related doesn't apply to the 991.1 folks (which there is a lot of lately). I suggest doing something similar to what the e90post.com BMW forums do (I had a 335i before the 911). So, for example, they have a general E9X forum but within that they have sub-forums: N55-engine specific tuning, N54-engine specific tuning, wheels/tires, electronics, interior/exterior, suspension/brakes, etc. This always felt very organized to me.

Where would all the fight threads go? Who will decide who won which and gets it as a sticky in their forum?

it was not my intention to trigger anyone to the point that they have to resort to sarcasm. Apologies for causing you any distress

Controversy is good for ratings. And besides, the 991.1 was the last true Carrera. 991.2 should be honored to be associated with such a legacy.
