Default 911 991 vs M4 vs CS63 AMG S

I'll start by saying sorry if this is posted in the wrong area I'm just looking for some guidance. I'm considering buying a used M4 convertible, C63 AMG S, or a 911 991. I am only buying one of these cars with under 30,000 miles and a perfect CARFAX. I want a car that will be a great daily driver I don't need lots of space the 911 has enough space for my needs. I want the car to have great realiablity and I also want the car that will look new and not dated for the longest. I have saved up for a very long time and have all my finances in order to deal with any repairs, but I would like any advice on if one of these cars will have more problems then the others. I am going to be buying one of these cars in the next couple months and I need oppinions from as many forums, friends, and professionals as possible. At the end of the day I am looking for the car that is the most fun with a good mix of not being dated quickly or being unreliable. I will be keeping this car for 5 to 7 years and my max budget is about $65,000 but I would feel better spending around $45,000 to $50,000 which would pretty much leave me with just the M4 as an option. Would the c63 amg s or the 911 991 really be worth the extra cash?

Being that you are on a 991 forum, I bet you can guess what most of the responses will be. I have a '15 M4 coupe as my daily and a '16 GTS with a manual tranny as my weekend/fun car. I have had both cars since new. The M4 has actually been more reliable although the Porsche is very good too. BMW is far cheaper to buy and less to maintain especially if you have free maintenance as I did for the first 4 yrs. Porsche 'feels' like a better built tighter car and the manual tranny is more fun for a weekend car at least for me. I have heard BMW turbos can crap out before 100K miles but I only have about 19K on my car.

Very different cars. Two are hotted up mainstream cars and one is a purpose-built sports car with fewer compromises. I would guess the 91 will be the most costly to own but it also more fun to drive and will probably hold its value better. Amongst these three one should test drive them and pick the one he likes - they are all good cars. Having driven all 3 the 911 would easily be my choice - it feels like a sports car. The C63 and M4 are fast but just don’t feel as agile or communicative. For some that could be a plus though!

Cheers,
NF

Thanks for the info. I know most people will say go for the 911 on here, I guess I'm trying to figure out if the M4 is even close in terms of fun to the 911. Right now I have a 2007 328i bmw coupe, so any of the cars on my list will be a huge upgrade. I don't know of many un-bias places to post about what car I should get.

Do you think I should go for a newer model than the 2015 if I do get an m4, like a 2017 with the competition package? Or is the 2015- 2016 still pretty good with out the competition package?

My take form being primarily a Porsche guy. I drove the new M4 and was favorably impressed- that includes track time. I believe a nice well sorted and well spec'd M4 is a "less generic" car than a close to base Carrera S. More comfortable as a daily driver and plenty of torque. But in the end, only you, after driving the cars can say what is best for you.

I would also consider the quality of the roads you drive on. The 911 is definitely the most engaging/fun car, but if you have to drive over a lot of "ankle-breaker" potholes like I do everyday, a slightly softer ride like the BMW's can feel like a breath of fresh air while still offering good performance. All 3 are great cars though- whichever you choose you will be happy with the choice (and also occasionally regret it as well).

I had F80 M3 Competition and now I drive 991.2 GTS.
M3 is by far better daily drive. Even though space is not your concern, I liked having backseats that I can pick up friends and more trunk space I can run to Costco, etc. it's more comfortable and plenty of fun. And you'll not worry about keeping mileage low either since under 8-9k miles/year consider as low mile M cars.

On the other hand, 991 is a lot more focused sport car with no option to pick up anyone from the airport. And you will need to keep under 6k/year to keep your 911 to be attractive to future buyers when you're ready to sell.

If I need to drive 8-10k miles/year, I would get an M3 but if you're gonna keep your miles low and really don't need any trunk or backseat space, 911 is much more fun. Good luck with your decisions.

I went from a 2015 C63 507 (coupe) to a 2019 911 GTS. The 6.2L engine (M156) is a beast, very flexible, and made a ton of torque everywhere. FWIW I did have a Eurocharged tune, but it didn't add a ton of power. I cannot comment on the 4.0L biturbo C63 which makes a ton of power with a tune.

The C63 sounded like a beast, and with some simple removal of the resonators sounds even better. All of my friends prefer how the C63 sounds versus the 991.2 GTS.
The ride of the C63 was harsher than the GTS surprisingly,
The interior on my C63 is definitely dated compared to the GTS.
The C63 has much more room inside, and the rear seats were useable by adults if necessary. But as a coupe the rear was used only once.
C63 has an actual trunk which can carry a few sets of golf clubs, a set of skis inside etc.
The MCT transmission in the C63 SUCKS compared to the PDK transmission.

For a DD they are pretty close in my mind. I do prefer the GTS overall.
GTS has limited space, but that is what other cars are for.
GTS / 991.2 platform is much more responsive to an ECU tune.
991.2 is much more expensive to upgrade/modify, even accounting for the 'MB tax'. Porsche tax >>> MB tax.
Porsche subjectively looks better.

I still would want to get another C63 and slap a supercharger on to it.

Get what you want.

If you're getting an M4, then get the 2018+ competition pkg with the LCI update; the acceleration in the M4 was great along with the trunk space and usable backseats. The build quality of the 911.2 is noticeably better. Especially, the 18 way seats and leather interior. I liked the Harman Kardon a lot more than the Bose in the 911. The BMW free maintenance was legit. I loved it. I got rid of my '18 M4 competition pkg and got a 991 2 GTS.

Honestly, I haven't looked back. Get what you want. Drive both and see which one you prefer. They're two different experiences.

I have a 2015 f80 and it has 48k miles with my 991.2 c2s both bought new.
Only issues are front wiper spray broke and front lock slow to open all warranty covered.

love my f80. Love my 911. Different car for different uses.

I just don’t find the 911 as good as a daily. If you need to beat on it and put on miles I would get the better daily.

just don’t test drive a 911, you’ll be finding reasons to buy one.

I’m not a fan of the current c63 but never drove one.

Have you drive a 991? If not you should, and if you do I think you will find it much easier for you to decide.

If you are not getting 911, go for the M2c instead of M4

If you drive them all and still don’t know what you wanted you are not ready. The sedans are juiced up to give more power. I think you will know if you drive them a few times each. And it’s ok if it’s not the 911.
