Default Towing 911 with Uhaul Trailer

Ok so I've found the car and ready to buy, 911 991.1. Its about 500 miles from my home so I am planning to go there one time. PPI was done but I have yet to put my eyes or touch the car. I want to tow it back on a uhaul flatbed trailer behind my truck. I can rent one there locally and tow it home one way. Anyone done this before? is there enough clearance with the ramps for loading and unloading? I am planning to take some pieces of 2x12 to offset the angle as much as possible and tire straps to hold it in place. Ant recs would be appreciated.

I picked up my Ferrari just that way. I was happy the fenders folded away so I could open the doors. I did have issues loading, so I backed the trailer up to a driveway so the tires were in the rain gutter and the ramps reached back to the sidewalk. Drove right on.

You will need to have some shorts pieces of woodunder the front wheels to allow the front fender to pass over the front stops of the trailer.
Probably need to remove the bolted on stop if its too high. Once you get the trailer take a look at it so you have the tools and wood pieces available.

The local u-haul refused rental unless I backed on the trailer because of the rear engine. Perhaps a local thing. I chose not to fight about it and drove my car 1000 miles instead.

Towed my 997 with a Uhaul Trailer. Used a set of race ramps I had to pull it on. Removed the front ramp stops on trailer (4 bolts) and it cleared fine. Tongue weight was fine without pulling it on backwards. Mac tie downs with padded wheel straps worked perfect.

When I would do stuff like this (not with a 991), it was always cheaper to do a “local” rental and tow the trailer out and back. I would not trust uhaul to have a trailer available when you got to your location to pick up and use.

I did this last year with my new "project" 914. Had no trouble loading (except we had to push the car up the ramps). And yes, bring along additional tie-down straps.

The U-haul trailer we got was almost new, and towed very easy behind my 3/4 ton Suburban.

On the front of the trailer you can unbolt the front edge. If your car is lowered at all and you pull forward.....Ouch. Yes I learned the hard way a few years ago.

Drive the car. You bought it to drive it. Why tow it. Figure out if all is ok fairly quick.

Not a bad idea but I know of a guy who purchased a 993 from another state and while driving home hit a deer on a state road and ended up needing to tow if afterwards and have it repaired before he could enjoy it.
