Default Rodent damage?

Has anyone had issues with rats or mice getting up into the bottom of the car and trying to eat the wiring and causing damage?
I believe the previous owners of my property had an old jeep that suffered such damage. I'm about to take possession of a beautiful 2017 991.2 and don't want it to suffer a similar fate. Thus I'm wondering whether the wiring is protected against vermin.

Rats/Mice will eat through anything.

Matt from Obsessed Garage had an issue with mice eating his wiring on his old GT3. I believe it needed a new wiring harness. Maybe invest in a car capsule if it's going to be stored outside.

Have heard it happen to several owners. Do what you can to plug any holes in the garage, invest in glue traps, throw some mouse magic under the car. If outside, buy capsule as suggested by @ShaunP. Good luck.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as mouse-proof wiring, and a mouse can sneak through a dime -sized opening so if they live in your area, they can get in. I put mouse stick baits around the perimeter of my garage and then 4 glue traps in the front and rear footwells in my cars if they are garaged for the winter. If you don't see droppings around the stick baits, chances are you're OK, but if not, then I would check the glue-ons at least once a week for the critters. The colder it is outside, the more likely they will seek warmth and sneak in. They are really cute though especially the two-tone ones with brown fur and white bellies

Mice stuffed my Chevelle’s HVAC ducts with nesting debris one winter (in a rural part of NJ), now I store with block baits although I hate doing it. I buy the wrapped kind.

I have a significant background in rodent management. If you live in cooler climates glue boards are a waste of time as the pliability of the glue drops dramatically once temps fall. Maintaining a rodent control program on the site where you store your car is really the only successful measure I have seen in my 30 years in the industry. I have been been working on some devices to help keep mice out of cars and RVs but patent issues have delayed my progress.

If parked inside, in addition to using a professional rodent management service, leave the interior garage lights on all of the time. The little buggers do not like well-lit places...enjoy your new ride in the best of health!

Have heard that moth ***** are effective at repelling rodents. A few just sprinkled around might help. Can’t hurt.

on second thought, ask your wife for a sachet and take out the lavender and replace with moth *****. Now hang this from the car like a ball sack. 😉

Rodent is a big problem in Marin. I assume also in the SF Bay Area also. They will chew wires, padding in the A/C units and the heat insulation pads. Hire pest control companies, like ATCO and I have installed mouse blockers in all my cars. That has seem to take care of the problem on my property.

Hope this helps.
