991.1 GTS vs R8 V10 6MT or?
I am considering buying a keeper, a normally aspirated manual sports car that I will keep for the foreseeable future, not drive in poor weather and drive only for pleasure.
I have a budget of about 150k Cdn.
I am obviously influenced by factors like depreciation rate, maintenance and repair costs.
I should also add in a bit about what I value in the driving experience: sound, throttle response, shift action, acceleration, handling, visibility, ride comfort.
I have landed on the 991. GTS M7 and r8 v10 6mt as the 2 front runners.
so which would you get given the context above or is there another car you would have instead?

The R8 is a more exciting and less practical 3rd car. It's also perhaps more special because V10 and manual is a dead combo.

Since it’ll be your fun car, R8 v10 manual. That will appreciate in value much more than the GTS, the GTS will hold well., but keep depreciating. Not the R8 manual. Also, the R8 is an Audi and easy maintenance.

Try and get the R8 V10 PLUS . It’s a beast of a car. And the engine sound. Wow.
it’s a much faster car than the GTS.
My friend has a plus on lease, buy out is 120 so if you are looking at the dealer, may be room to bargain as the plus list for higher.

Get the R8. The R8 when new was ~200K USD. - it's a better car all around. Don't buy either car as an investment. Repairs on both cars will be about the same - and get a warranty either way. Maintenance costs slightly more on the R8. Only complaint is the Audi MMI in that generation was poo poo. Get the Tune2Air and stream music fine. And use Waze. You'll forget the interface quickly as the driving experience is top notch.

This is a tough one - I'm not the biggest fan of R8s (even though I love audis) - but in this case I'd want to say I'm leaning towards gated R8 on this one with the heart and the GTS with the head.
GTS will be more usable, and a bit more stealth. R8 will stir up more emotions, and hold if not appreciate on price.
I've been on both spectrums of Porsche vs more exotic debate and ownership several times and the only solution to the problem is to have both !!

When I narrowed down my choices, they were: 991.2 TT/TTS, 991.2 GTS, and R8 V10 Plus. I’ve had Audis for the last several years (still own 2) so I was Audi’d out. I chose the 991.2 GTS and have not looked back. If/when I get tired of my GTS, I’m probably going to look for a R8 V10 Plus. The V10 sounds glorious with the right exhaust! Between a 991.1 and the R8, I’d go with the R8.

If it’s an 2014 R8 V10 I prolly lean toward that car but 2012 or older design not really appeal to me even though only minor cosmetic and lights but it’s just me. Both are great car but I went through the same decision last year and end up with 911. Good luck

That's a pretty overwhelming majority, from a 991 enthusiast's forum.
I would also go R8 for a pleasure only car, above all other choices out there. (former RS4 and RS5 owner for complete disclosure)
