I am considering buying a keeper, a normally aspirated manual sports car that I will keep for the foreseeable future, not drive in poor weather and drive only for pleasure.
I have a budget of about 150k Cdn.
I am obviously influenced by factors like depreciation rate, maintenance and repair costs.
I should also add in a bit about what I value in the driving experience: sound, throttle response, shift action, acceleration, handling, visibility, ride comfort.
I have landed on the 991. GTS M7 and r8 v10 6mt as the 2 front runners.
so which would you get given the context above or is there another car you would have instead?
I have had a 2017 911 GTS (manual and modded), a 2011 twin turbo R8 (6 speed manual), and currently have a supercharged 2017 r8. As a fun weekend car R8 all the way! If you buy a 2009 to 2015 it must be the gated manual. The best overall car is the GEN2 R8 (2017 and newer). I also have a 2007 GT3 as a track/fun car. It would be hard for me to choose between the R8 and GT3
Heres a pic when had the 2017 GTS (and 2017 r8) before I got rid of the GTS for a 997 GT3

what did you like about the gen 2 r8 over the gen 1?
I have driven and am very familiar with the Gen 2 R8 and agree with flsupraguy on the fit, finish, engine and transmission being better. However if you are considering resale value the Gen 1 R8 is better contender in my opinion being that it is one the last Gated V10's manuals made. Both great cars.
