The only manual I like, is the one on my Ducati.

Otherwise give me a PDK/DCT.

Couldn't agree with the OP more. My 991.2S is so fast that I want both hands on the wheel if accelerating hard. And I don't want to worry about watching a tach as this car spins up to redline. That means safer driving with hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Plus the down shifting and rev matching is really cool and never gets old. I guess there is a reason the don't put MT in F1 cars. My other car is an M5 with a manual trans and I do miss that PDK when driving it.

Great post.

I also love the PDK I my 991.1 GTS cab. I’m also in LA so I very much get the traffic. The GTS serves pretty much every purpose I could imagine.

I did however recently add a 996 TT X50 to the stable for those time where I need to get my manual fix on. It’s been a great pairing.

If you spend any significant amount of time in capital "T" Traffic, such as LA, Houston, NYC...PDK / Tiptronic is a godsend. I love my Cayenne for the daily grind.

If not, then I find the experience somehow dampened. I love the connection with the machine of a manual. I love the feeling of compression braking (even at neighborhood speeds) I grew up with Manuals, and drove my 993 for 17 years in Silicon Valley / Houston traffic, just for the weekend romps to the Hills / Country.

PDK has its place, but I'd always want at manual in the stable!

cheers!

So, where are we with this debate? 90% in favor of the manual and 10% the pdk? Happy Thanksgiving!

This is a timely thread for me...I'm actively in the market for a 991.2 and had my sights on PDK. Then the other day, to my surprise, my wife said if I got stick she'd drive it all the time. This is the same wife who has been poo-pooing me getting a 911 forever. So the question for this group is, do you think a PDK in manual mode would give my wife the manual experience fix she craves? This car will be somewhere between a DD and a weekend car - i.e. won't have to do crazy rushhour commutes, but will run around in it as much as I can during the week. Thanks all!

I get it except I have the poor man's version of OP. I have a DCT in my M4 daily driver and a standard tranny in the GTS. Having one makes me appreciate the other more. I figured owning the M4 would 'prep' me to get a really cool dual clutch like a PDK in a GT Porsche or even an F1 in a F car.

just based on what you said, you should get a PDK. 😉

LOL Absolutely not. It's amazing how many females prefer a MT. My son brought his fiancee to my house last Sunday. She works for the Secret Service and is an excellent driver. So after we ate lunch my son asked his fiancee if she would like to drive my Porsche. The very first question she asked was if it were a MT. She drives autos all the time, and had no desire to drive an auto Porsche.

I can only speak to the PDK in my 971TT, very limited time in a 991.2 but I love the options it offer as said in the Op. I went from a MT to PDK and couldnt be happier. Now in Auto not sport I feel it can rush up the gears a bit but in sport its great and the fact you can run it in manual gives you the best of both worlds. No its not a MT but personally Im done with clutch peddles especially since Im never on a track.

I have a 991.2 4S Cab with PDK and a GT3T. I drive the 4S all the time and love it. I wish it was a big louder (stock) but it’s an amazing car and I drive it in Sport and in manual virtually all the time.

for Daily driving with traffic, pdk 100%. just switch over to sport mode when you turn the engine on, to disable the auto-stop-start feature.
