I've had AWD cars most of my life and loved them. My GTS is RWD and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's all personal preference. I don't live where there's inclement weather. Besides, I have AWD cars for that sort of stuff. If my 911 was a DD and lived where there are 4 seasons, I'd go with an AWD model but the RWD version is what I prefer here in the land of sunshine.

Agree with above comments.
One other thing that nobody has mentioned is that it accelerates faster even though it weighs more. Putting all that power down on the pavement requires all four wheels driven.
I got a C4 only because of the hips. I would have preferred not to have paid the extra cost or add the weight but I love the wide hips.

An AWD is no fun? Really?
You don’t need AWD? I just finished a 2 day event at Barber PTX where we had a lot of rain.
The best car in the rain? The AWD Turbo S, according to the majority of the participants, over the rear wheel drive GTS models. We had one of the GTS models spin out and hit the ARMCO with its back end during the second day (rain all day).
I own a C4S 7M that’s an absolute blast to drive in all conditions and handles Florida rain excellently.
If you like your rear drive that’s fine, I won’t knock your choice, but keep an open mind about about other options.

Yes, AWD definitely connects better than the RWD for sure. RWDs however provide “fun” driving dynamics that AWD vehicles cannot mimic. I also love the bubbly butt and the GTS checks that box as well.

To the OP: if not driving in the slippery, AWD is not preferable. Because it costs more to buy and to run and to maintain, and because it is heavier, AWD is not needed. And I wouldn't want it either.

With snow tires an AWD 911 will out-accelerate a snow-tired RWD 911 on snow.
Braking and cornering on snow-covered roads will be so close to the same that it’s not really worth arguing about.
The AWD 911 will have a slight advantage as a snow plow once there’s more than ~3”s of accumulation.

A steep hill that can be quite slick when snow covered leads to my house in NE PA. On occasion, my 991 C2 could not climb it, even with excellent winter tires. I expect that my recently purchased 991 C4S, with similar tires, will prove more capable. We shall see.
