^^^ That was why it was rhetorical... Guess my humor was as successful as Kimi as well!

If there WAS a high water mark for them, as a car company (vice engine provider...) it was the '60s IMO.

COTA was great. Now hopefully they spend some of the millions they made off of us saps and do some resurfacing. I KNOW Vettel agrees with that one!

I was out there too. It was my second F1 race at COTA. It was a beautiful day on Sunday, and the race was exciting despite the fact that MB and Lewis Hamilton locked it all up. I liked seeing Bottas go after, and eventually pass Hamilton.

McLaren won the F1 Constructors Championship in 1984 and 1985 with Porsche engines. That was Porsche's high water mark in F1.

No worries, - just "rethorical" doesn't mean sarcastic, so that was somewhat confusing ;-) but good on you for seeing the race. Big F1 fan myself though less tempted to go in person since the engines stopped shrieking at 19000 rpm. Watching old videos gives me goosebumps... New cars, not so much... How was the sound in person ?

It's great at COTA, as you can still get within feet of the track if you choose to. One of the benes IMO. I wore ear pro (many years of aircraft and gun fire, so trying to save what I've got...), most did not. The other cool thing, alluded to above ( and yes, I mean alluded... Which is sarcasm, and I even used Sarcasm Font to make it easier on you this time. ) is the smell. They can change the tune, but they can't get rid of that race smell. And when you're close you get that and the heat coming at you.

Intoxicating.

The shear cornering speed and braking ability are astounding too. I had seats in the grand stands at the end of the back straight. You think they're braking too late but they somehow shed the speed and make the corner.
