Default Advise for a Porsche Noob

Hello everyone..long time amateur Corvette racer here looking to move to Porsche. I currently track a 2018 Z06 Corvette and would like a Porsche with similar power/performance. Being a noob to Porsche I'm assuming that's going to be a late model 911 turbo. I can afford about $130K which means getting a preowned model, but what year should I be looking at?

Also, I've never tracked an AWD car but I presume they perform better if for no other reason than better traction. Any other considerations for RWD over AWD?

2010 to 2011 (997.2) GT3 for less than $130K.

Any non GT car will not hold up well to regular tracking. Plus their depreciation curve is just like other cars if that is a concern.

I would shop for 991.2 T or 991.2 S or 991.2 GTS for 130K. I would not spend that kind of money on a 997 myself.

I got my 500 mile used 2019 911 GTS for 130K.

There are too many options to throw at you, and I think you will see the same when more people reply. Since you are used to RWD you may not need to spend the extra money on AWD but then again you are used to a front engine car vice rear. Have you driven any P cars? I suggest one of the newer 2017+ 991.2s - maybe you should go test drive a couple to get a feel for them, and try the older 991.1 cars that are NA, like your C7.

What kind of racing do you do that you never heard of a GT3? They are arch rivals to the Vette.

It's a track only car? I would be looking at 991 GT3 and Cup cars only. Both of which can be had for your budget.

What are all the numbers like (991, 993, etc)? I take it 991 = 911 Turbo? Are those model revision numbers?

Track days at various places here in the SE (Daytona, Roebling Roads, Sebring). When I go to Daytona it's actually with the local Porsche club; no one ever talks to me though :-) So I don't get a chance to talk about their cars.

Then buy the outgoing ZR1. Great read here (and read his other ZR1 threads, too):

Nope, even though the 991.2 cars have turbos. Here is 991.1 Turbo (note initial cap), which has AWD: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...s-goodies.html

Guys, he wants similar performance, a 997 GT3 is not even close in power. If I was you, and if you don’t care for a manual, then check out the 2014+ 911 Turbo models and 2017+ 911 GTS. The 2017+ GTS with a tune, can put down huge numbers. Factory is pretty fast too. Loads of torque. Same for the 2014+ Turbo. Fast out of the box, and a simple tune and the z06 is seeing tail lights.

My Z06 is a manual and frankly I'm ready to make the switch to a DC auto. The 911 turbo's give me fits at the track, that's one reason I'm looking in that direction.
