Don't pay the money to the dealer, especially not to one who sold you this car! I would try to find the part at the cheapest place and bring it to an independent mechanic and have him take care of it.

I don't understand this. Why would the HPFP be internally connected to the internal workings and oil supply from the motor (for pressure? cooling? is that the drive mechanism?)? And in the parts schematic above in post #7 I see the o-ring, but, it lools like it's just attached to the case and nothing it behind it? Someone with better knowledge, please explain. TY.

From what I have read, the hpfp is driven by the left bank camshaft.

Ok. Then why can't they just remove the pump and just replace the o-ring? If that's where the leak is.

The pump has gone bad. The “reduced engine performance - possible to drive on” engine light came on when I was dropping off the car at the dealer. That morning I had long engine starts and severe stumbling. Now what I do not know is if the oil leak caused the pump to go bad or vice versa or of it is completed unrelated. Hopefully I will get some answers on Monday.

That's what it looks like to me, too.

You can see the same size opening on the right cylinder head, which interfaces with a vacuum pump that is driven by the camshaft. If you remove the vacuum pump or damage the o-ring, oil will seep/leak out. I suspect the same at the fuel pump interface.

You are correct, both units have o-rings. My vacuum pump failed several week ago. However, the vacuum pump is 1/10th the price or $200 compared to $2200. When your vacuum pump fails the MFD will display a “Coolant Failure.” Here is a picture of the back size of my pump.

Vacuum Pump.

Update: extended warranty company approved the repair today. So the dealer went ahead and ordered the hpfp today and it will be arriving in 2/3 days. This should resolve the oil leak as well. Looking forward to getting my car back! Lucky for me this will only cost me the $100 deductible.

Well gentlemen, I finally picked up my car on Saturday and it is running like a champ. The hpfp was replaced as oil was found leaking from the deformed hpfp seal. The only thing I am still not quite sure of is whether the leaking oil caused the pump to fail or if the pump caused the seal to fail. I want to thank you all for your input as I learned a lot about this car in a few short days.

I don't see how the pump failed since you can still drive the car. How low was the oil? how was oil pressure? I think it was just a bad O-ring but dealership included the HPFP just to be safe.

The pump did ultimately fail as the engine died and failed to start back up when I dropped it off. This happened while the car was being checked in at the service lane. On the drive to the dealership, the mfd did show the “reduced engine performance - ok to drive on” message. But the genesis of all this was the oil leak at the hpfp.
