Windshield replace/repair hurt value ?
Nope, it's perfect. Only restraint was no pressure washing, which I don't do anyway, for the first 24 hours after install.
As this is my Dead Man's Car, I'm good with the claim/deductable/etc., but doubt any of it will even show up. Window damage with no accident is a common designator, especially in TX. I had done a patch on a crack earlier, also without hesitation. IMO, the windshield, front fascia, splitter are all wear items on these cars, so I wouldn't worry too much. Anyone who complains to you about it at a possible resale doesn't understand these cars. Go with your gut, it's your wheels

“Those who have and those who will.” Mine was replaced at 5,000 miles. If you get hit at the edge of the glass, it’s all over. I had the same thing happen to another car recently. It’s been a couple of bad months but it could be worse. With the car being so new, USAA paid for a OEM glass. The installer warned me that it won’t be the last time since these cars sit so low and of course, speed doesn’t help either.
I fail to understand why a windshield replacement would hurt the value of this (or any other) car.
A bizarre concept by any standard.
What other options would an owner have?
Even your run-of-the-mill Bugatti and even a Jet fighter gets a cracked windscreen every now and again, so I think you'll be just fine.

Great tip I’ll remember that!

If someone even scratches the paint with zero body/structural/mechanical damage but needs a respray, the fact that it was painted materially effects the price of the car. This is decided not by the quality of the paint job, but just the mention of it in a Carfax or different reading on a paint thickness gauge has an impact. Its a shame - it certainly diminishes my enjoyment of the car worrying that even an errant shopping cart in a parking lot could cost me 10 grand or more in DV. But not so much as to stop me from driving it 😜
There is a rain sensor that activates the wipers which is part of a stationary fitting behind and not part of the windshield. Not sure if it is an option or standard. I have it on my Macan and it was not affected when replacing the windshield after a chip like that decided to spread a crack months after a Safelight repair. Or, if something was reset, the dealer never mentioned it or charged me to do it.

Anyway, I wound doing the aftermarket glass and I had rain sensing wipers, which worked fine after the replacement. Did it affect aftermarket value--no, not at all since I traded that car in on my wife's M-B.
Now, if you have a really, really high end Porsche that is desirable from a concours standpoint, then it may matter. Since my 911 is my DD I will no doubt be replacing the WS at some point--Binswanger will do it because the DV will be too insignificant for me to care about, if any at all.
FWIW, I just got a chip last week and was sick when it happened. I was so distraught I went directly to a Safelite to have fixed immediately. While talking to the agent and waiting for her to look up prices to replace I called a close friend that owns a RS7 and ask if they have experienced. And the answer was Yes. So, to make a long story short. If you're going to drive these cars S---- happens and just roll with it. I didn't replace the windshield, just used my insurance to pay for it which was no cost due to it was below my deductible. Really nice job was done as your wouldn't know if you sat in my car.
More than not it will happen again. Also, I was driving a family member Mercedes a few days later and observed they had them as well. It seems they are more common than we think. It just hurts as its in our 911!

On a side note, I was speaking to a PCNA rep a few years ago and he confirmed that they respray at the factory on occasion. (Hardly surprising).
That led me to thinking how many of us have taken a painter meter to our new cars upon delivery...

Guy at the gas station the other week said "nice Porsche!" "I replace a lot of windshields on those things."
I've seen one Carfax come up with "windshield replaced", along with a dozen other things a dealer did.

Just had my windshield replaced by Safelite. $600 for Fuyao (China based company) brand, but they manufacture here in the US and apparently now supply a number of high end car lines. Quality seems excellent, only difference I noted seems to be an additional antenna wire in the center. Here in New Jersey windshields seem to be consumable items now, so putting in a much more expensive OEM windshield doesn’t make much sense if you don’t expect it to last more than a year.
When I lived in NJ, I had one chipped by a rock left by construction crews on route one in North Brunswick, the week it was replaced, the new one was chipped at the same location. I called the police and was put into someone’s voicemail. I left a pretty hard toned message- the cops are out there every day randomly giving speeding tickets to people traveling with traffic (there’s no way to safely do the speed limit) how about calling the contractor to clean up the road?!. A detective called me back and apologized!
The two replaced windshields hurt my wallet, but not resale value. I like Florida better. Have saved enough in taxes to pay for a new 911 every year.

Good to read through all of this - I've got a '17 911 S, and the windshield has gotten extremely pitted over the last several months. So much so that I've been considering replacing the WS, but have been worried about how well it will get done. I've had windshields replaced on other cars, but never a Porsche. This makes me feel better about doing it.
