992 S versus 991.2 GTS
#2
Car and Driver had a detailed review of the 992S in their print magazine. To summarize, the new car (according to them) is marginally better in some areas (handling limits easier to exploit, less NVH) and worse in others such as fit and finish, turbo lag, non-intuitive infotainment system etc. You may want to check that out and drive the new car before 'upgrading'.

The new car seems like a dog. Unless you're going to a GT I would not move to the 992. The front hood and bumper looks good but I find the wide front fenders, rear, and interior to be quite ugly. With little to no mechanical step up. I'm not a fan. That said, I'm sure the 992 GT3 will be compelling as always.

JMHO, but I'm driving a 991.2 Endurance Racing Edition with X51 PowerKit and i, like you, think the 992 S is a great new edition. But there is a real issue i have with trading for one...
There is no (as in zero) 992 S performance gain of the new 992 S over your 991.2 GTS or my 991.2 X51 S, unless Porsche offers an X51 PowerKit for the 992 S. The 7:24 Nordschleife lap times are identical for your 991.2 GTS and the 992 S, and by extrapolation it's the same for my 991.2 X51 S.
There is no hint whatsoever from Porsche that they might again offer the X51 PowerKit for the 991.2 S, which they abruptly pulled from the market. My SA says Porsche stopped the X51 PowerKit sales to keep the GTS "Exclusive". If that is true and a result of a change in thinking at Porsche, they may never offer an X51 PowerKit for the 992 S.
So IMHO, there is no reason for you (or me) to pony up the extra $$,$$$ for a 992 S at this time. We are better off waiting for the 992 GTS and it's true performance gains.
The USA 992 GTS should pack 475 HP without the EU particulate filter.

This was from the review of the base 992. This comment stuck out to me.
The 992 isn't quite as responsive as is a 991.2 model with its optional rear-wheel steering, but it's made a noticeable move in that direction and remains the standard for electric power-steering feel.

It bothers me its not a major improvement... it's a slight improvement...
It is not getting favorable reviews like the 991 debut.
I bought a 991.2 S just recently, made my choice after reading all reviews on 992, watching the youtube videos, test driving the 991.2 S
oh and the Corvette C8 ((BASE)) is as fast as a 992 S they want 130k for (since these are going for MSRP right now)..... just what it is.
Not worth it in my eyes!
I can have a 991.2S and a Corvette C8 if I wished for that money
Im sure the 992 GTS and GT cars will be amazing
Im out until the 992.2S

IMO Porsche screwed up with how potent the 991.2 is, especially the base model. The 992 base model sees a minimal power increase given the weight increase.
I'm extremely satisfied with the depreciation curve the 991.2 GTS has. Still worth top dollar. The 991.2 is a gem.

I can’t get over the fact that it doesn’t have a proper pdk manual shift lever.
Coming from manual driving to pdk, the shift lever is one of the key elements of my driving that makes the 991 so enjoyable. I only use the paddles at the track.
I love the front look but the rear is meh for me.
I like Ike the more analog look of the 991.2 interior compared to 992’s
Unless it fails in me, my 991.2 4 GTS is a keeper for life.

I just recently traded my 2017 991.2 C2 for a 2019 GTS. I was given the option of a 992 S or one of the few remaining GTS slots. I went for the GTS as I personally love the 991.2 and the 992 just didn't do it for me. Personal preference but sure you'll be happy no matter your decision. Good luck.
