991.2 GTS w/ Champion / GIAC Tune
#16
Bob, I have seen you comment that you have a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS in other post. Did you ever do the Cobb tune on that vehicle? I recently got a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS, and I am installing a Cobb tune now with soul performance sport cats, fabspeed tips, and ipd plenum-curious to hear your take. Thanks.

There is a Chinese knockoff PIWIZ2 out there for way less. It can get it done but they are so inconsistent... I've seen some work and some not. The 997 and earlier goes into dyne mode automatically. 991.1 forward, you have to have a tool - even on an AWD dyno. There is no way around it.

I'm just hoping that the dyno mode will put my Turbo S into RWD so I can dyno it on a 2 wheel dyno as well

Bonus's for the Champion Tune:
#1 - Dealer Support - I would have paid double for the tune just to get dealer support
#2 - More conservative - I track my here and there, I have lost an engine on a tuned car before on track and won't be doing that again!
#3 - Giac bring in less boost on the low end which I believe helps reduce heat soak on the top end where it really matters.
Given a choice I would love to have a ton of torque with less peak boost for Normal the less low end and more peak for S & S+. I feel like the (3) modes are very underutilized.
Downsides of the Champion Tune:
#1 - Cost - Higher upfront cost and nothing to sell at the end
I usually get 75% back out of my Cobb AP's when I trade
#2 - More power and multiple levels of tuning ie Stage's & different octane
#3 - Maps can't be updated with the handheld unit
#4 - No PDK Tunes (Not available with the Cobb yet but expected to be just like the 991.1's)
#5 - No option to have the car checked and modified by a pro
I have purchased a dozen Accessports over the years and do highly recommend them but once you mod the ECM there is no going back on the 991.2. My only other choice was to buy a second ECM but that much trouble was not worth it.

From what Ive seen. On the same car, cobb is a little faster than GIAC. They push the car much harder tho. And earlier there were lots of bugs. Probably ironed out by now. I dont think any of the tuned guys have blown anything yet and needed warranty. Lets see

Suncoast and Manhattan Motor Cars also sell tunes. There are probably others across the country.
