Default How Does This Happen: Drivers Heel Pad Damage

New to me one owner CPO 2017 C2 with 18k bought a couple months ago.

I removed the OEM mats to fit my Weathertech Floor Liners and discovered this:

Obviously I’m not too happy. I mean, First World problems and all that, but geez how in the heck do you manage to put that much damage onto a heel pad in 18K miles.

Any options for dealing with this? Looks kinda like the pad clear laminate (?) is lifting away from the base pad surface. Or should I just whack the new mats in and not worry about it?

Guess I should have pulled the mats and looked. Lesson learned.

Agree it's a bit ugly but you will never see except during vacuuming. Don't stress about it, get a nice set of mats and don't think about it.

When you track/autocross, they don't allow floor mats in the car, so maybe hard use with the heels of the shoes resting on the pad?

Just a wild guess.

Years ago, I read that hard use/high mileage would be shown by the wear on the pedals (back when rolling back odometers was a thing).

So if you saw this before you bought the car you would have not done so? I say just put some mats over it and forget it. For what it is worth I just checked mine and there is zero wear on the pads.

I would still have bought it.

But I should have checked, since it would have gone into the negotiations on price in my head. Along with the fact the rears were about half worn, and the missing boot lid script which cost me mid three figures to replace.

But, shame on me for not checking; it’s my fault. Just bugs me. On the other hand, I saved $25k by buying a CPO car, which I plan to drive like I stole it the next four years.

i put the Weather Techs in and covered it up. Not going to worry about it any more.

They probably pulled out the mats to preserve them and drove on straight carpet.. Someone had heavy feet and really planted those heels in there. This type of wear seemed very common on MT vehicles during my detailing days.

Can't you go back to dealer and complain and tell them you need this fixed? It is CPO, correct?

The photo does look like there's clear plastic peeling off of the black vinyl. Is that the case? Can you peel it off?

That's clearly from a lot of track time. Floor mats are not allowed on track. A few track weekends won't do that either. Whoever owned that car had it out on track for a significant number of weekends. I'd check the DME reports.

Instead of a heavily-tracked car, one can hope it was driven by a really fat person with huge and heavy feet. How is the driver's seat?

My first thought was a lot of track or AX time...
