Mobil 1 5-50
Sorry for the dumb question but I have found a couple versions of this stuff, is this the correct A40 Porsche approved M1 5-50? Found this at Summit Racing. Can’t seem to find it locally that sucks. But I think I will give this a try vs the M1 0-40, probably overkill for 1000 miles per year in SoCal, oh well.
Thanks.

Thanks.

LMGTFY...
Yup. Mobil site says you’re good to go: https://www.mobil.com/English-US/Pas...l-1-FS-X2-5W50
I got 18 quarts of it, on sale from NAPA, delivered last week.

Or mix it half & half to get 2.5/45.

Thanks, seems like I can only find it on-line. So here is the million dollar question, is it gonna make a difference for 1500 miles per year street driving in SoCal? I get it might be better than the M1 0w40, but from what I have been reading the 0w40 starts to shear after 5000k+ miles. Again not trying to start a oil war but just trying to determine if I am gaining anything over the 0w40 for my mileage between oil changes, the convenience and $60 less is just icing on the cake, not that it really matters, lol. Again, if I am really helping my motor I will go with the 5w50, I just figured if it was better why was that not the OEM fill oil?
thanks

You want A40 approved Mobil 5W50.

I've been using M1 5w/50 for several years in my 996tt at the recommendation of my tuner (UMW/Kevin) and when I've changed oil in my 991s, used it too.
Additional shear resistance and tolerance for higher heat applies to your 991 turbo and is likely more beneficial than the cold start number (5). Ask Kevin what he runs in his new turbo.
I've also used it with good oil sample results in my M5 vs. the pricey 10/60 recommended by BMW.
Considering that I also change the oil more frequently than any recommendations also skews things compared to those who try to run 10k miles between changes. That interval seems crazy to me on any engine that revs over 6k.
Here's a link with more commentary:

I asked my local dealer and they were still using 0w 40 here in Richmond VA. Still thinking of going with 5w 50, temperature does get down to the single digits here in the winter , would that be an issue with the 5 weight oil?
