If you are getting a 100k+ car delivered and they do a great job it seems pretty poor not to give some sort of tip in my opinion. To each his own though. I usually do $50 and some baked goods from my wife.

Very interesting responses. Not sure what cost of a car has to do with tipping.

Do you tip the sales rep? He did spend a bunch of time getting you in the right car?

do you tip your builder? He works hard to please you through the entire build process.

do you tip your doctor? He/She has your life in there hands?

I just like everyone else here have my own opinion. I tip for service. I buy a car from a dealer and part of the transaction is the delivery.

if you ask the delivery person to do something extra, tip him. Can you wait to unload so I can film? Can you drop it off at a different address? Can you deliver a day early?

Would I tip the delivery person? Only if I asked him/her to do something special for me. JMO

My guess is that he did want to be held responsible if something went wrong, scraped the bumper or bottom out off the ramps. Sounds like a reasonable explanation, but these transporters should be trained to handle and off load expensive exotic cars. Weird.

A lot of the times the person delivering your car isn't the one who drove it cross country. He may just be delivering it for the final leg, so keep that in mind.

However, I've used Plycar in the past - expressly because they were able to guarantee no transhipment. The car got loaded in Ohio somewhere and stayed in the same trailer until it arrived in Seattle.

Minimizing the handling was important to me and I shopped around until I found a service that could meet my needs.

As a result, the process went smoothly and in those conditions I will tip.

Beside tipping, you know what's a lost art?

Writing 'thank you' notes.

At the very least, send a 'thank you' email. Everyone has an email address now. And try to c.c. someone up the food- hain for recognition. Costs you nothing, and you'll make someone's day.

Lastly, teach your children to write and send thank you notes within 7 days of receiving a gift.
