I had a 718S PDK loaner. PDK performance on throttle was impressive. But two things really annoyed me driving around town.
1. Even in sport mode, PDK automatic always selected the 2k rpm gear unless I was accelerating.
2. Applying brake to a long steady stop, the PDK pushed against the brakes a little at each downshift. More than just a pulse at the pedal.
I've never heard these complaints about the 991 PDK. I wonder if there's a setting for the 718 that would have fixed them.

I've been going regularly to Germany and Spain for nearly 20 years, with only rare exceptions I always rent a car. The automatic wave is slowly but surely affecting their rental fleet too. Not that I ever look to rent an automatic, but I've never been charged double when they've given me one.

I sorta feel like these threads are a waste of time. At the end of the day it's a huge personal preference thing, it's like asking people if I should enjoy coke more than a 7-Up.

PDK will always be faster and more efficient, but I am a little old fashioned and enjoy things like records/record players, vintage hifi, bolt action rifles and manual transmissions. Mechanical things speak to me emotionally.

I am just grateful we still have options in transmission styles.

I find these discussions very interesting...at the end of the day any topic that leads to debate on aspects of our cars is what the forums are for right?

I daily drive my 911s. Three were sticks, one PDK.

It is not a daily driver vs track car or a cab vs a coupe which defines my choice of transmission. To me it's the model guise or even more so the engine type and overall vehicle performance which dictates the transmission of choice.

Any NA P-car, including 991.1 GTS (and I had one with, obviously, a MT), I'd go stick. Older Turbo's including 997 I'd go stick. GT3 997 or 991 I'd go stick. Great that we have Touring option too. 991.2 anything, but Turbo/Turbo S, I'd go stick.

991.1 or 991.2 Turbo or Turbo S I'd go PDK. When buying my 991.1 TTS I was thinking after my test drives that this package truly needs a PDK. This is what I am driving now and although I love sticks and drive one almost daily, there is no regrets on getting a PDK-only TTS. Even if TTS were available with sticks I'd go PDK.

Interestingly, nobody seems to think along these lines...

Perhaps, but I guess this particular subject has been beaten like a dead horse in many threads.

I agree totally PF. After test driving the TTS I realized the only way to truly get what is available from the car is PDK. This after 4 MT previous generation Porsche TT cars.
I really enjoy the PDK in this car and it's really my first PDK car.

Which model are you referring to when you say ‘TTS’? Thanks!

Default I get this

I drove a F430 for a bit with the F1 package and the paddles felt right. Perhaps it relates to HP more than the vehicle. I love when people who read a forum and then get mad people are talking about something that does not interest them.

I hate to mention the "C" word but FYI: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/07/...-at-any-point/

Porsche is mentioned in the last paragraph though and this confirms that I will never own one, even though I am impressed with the effort.

A stick also comes in handy to prop up the hood or hold something while you are working. Can't be too careful.

Having driven only manual sports cars prior to my 911 purchase, I love the PDK. It gives me the same thrill as a manual.

I initially thought the fun with manual was the physical movement of shifting the gears, timing the clutch, and rev-matching the RPMs, but the PDK proved there are other things that are more fun. Like you can drive the car harder and more to its limit, because it frees you from those mechanical movements.

The only bad thing about the PDK is that my wife can now drive the car.

Haha. Sticks are useful.. However it was meant to be more towards the carrot and the stick

Anyone care to comment why the Speedster only comes in the Manual Stick-shift transmission? Does Porsche believe that the stick is still the best way to drive their cars?

Someone mentioned a $2k clutch vs $20k pdk transmission as a selling point for the manual but the money shift is not cheap. If I understand correctly, it can't be done with the PDK.
