Just to close this one out, I got underneath the car and loosened the plug. Drained about 3 cups of oil, Checked the plug after a short drive and see no seepage.
Was really surprised at the amount of the overfill. I thought draining the 3 cups or so would have bought me to the 3rd segment of the oil gauge, but it actually bought me to only the 4th segment
Thanks for all the replies and help. Hopefully this never happens again. From now on, will only fill with 7.75 or 8 quarts and then add as needed.
Did you check how much used oil you drained before putting in the fresh? That may be the reason you ended up with the overfill situation.
In thinking about how this could have happened after changing my own oil in my Porsches the past 6 years with no issues, I am guessing the miscalculation had to do with the Quick Jacks. In previous years, I have used JackPoint Jack Stands to lift the car. The rear tires were up in the air, the fronts on the ground. The car was angled downward and I am assuming more oil drained out that way. Oil changes with the Jack Points always took more than 8 quarts, usually about 8.25, With the Quick Jacks, the car goes up level.

So changed my oil and drove it about 10 miles. Last year I put in about 8.75 quarts (started with 8 and added as needed). This time I started with 8.25 with the idea I would add as needed once I got a reading since last year I needed 8.75. Well, when I checked I got the yellow warning saying, "oil is above max, consult a workshop, driving permitted." Sux.
What is the easiest way to drain the excess. Guess get under the car and open the plug a little? I am assuming that because of the yellow warning, it is overfilled by not that much.

What does "add as needed" mean? The only time I add is when I get the "Please add a quart of oil" message.
I like the oil gauge to be at the third segment when doing an oil change. If it is at the first or second segment, I will add oil until it reaches the third segment. Maybe most are OK with it at the lower segments, but seeing the gauge at the midway point makes me happy.
I’ve been reading as well as watching way too many vids, but someone said that if you pull the oil filter and let that drain, you would get out about 0.5 qts. Sounds like a lot to be in one filter but he said it, not me. That might be the easiest way. Do this once and recheck and maybe again if needed.

I cannot imagine pulling the filter and having that oil dripping all over the engine parts. If the filter was under the car, yes. But where it is on top of the engine - no.
I get pissed when I drain the oil and then take out the filter and a few drops drip out of the filter onto the engine.
8.75 quarts is a lot of oil to be starting with (the 991.1 capacity is 7.5L during a service which brings the dip stick to roughly the 1/4 to 1/2 mark) Next time I'd suggest adding no more than 7 to 7.5L on the initial fill and carefully topping up as needed 200 ml @ a time over the course of several drive cycles.

Towels and Saran Wrap can prevent messy problems from actually being messy.

I agree. Could not believe it took 8.75 last year, but it did. Hopefully this will be my one and only incident. Gonna to fill with 7.5 to 8 going forward and then check after some drives as suggested.
