Oil Overfill
So changed my oil and drove it about 10 miles. Last year I put in about 8.75 quarts (started with 8 and added as needed). This time I started with 8.25 with the idea I would add as needed once I got a reading since last year I needed 8.75. Well, when I checked I got the yellow warning saying, "oil is above max, consult a workshop, driving permitted." Sux.
What is the easiest way to drain the excess. Guess get under the car and open the plug a little? I am assuming that because of the yellow warning, it is overfilled by not that much.
Thanks.

I know electronic dipsticks can be a little unpredictable...maybe try gently getting the oil to temp one more time and check again? If you are still receiving the overfill message then yea, probably best to loosen the drain plug and let a little out and then remeasure.

So a little update, called my SA and he said to drain the oil and do another oil change. He said that loosening the plug and draining a little is no good because the crush washer cannot be reused. What does everyone else think?

Technically he is correct. However a full drain isn't necessary but you may need to borrow a buddies finger to plug the hole while you swap out the crush washer. On the GT4 I would just pop the oil filter off and dump out the contents. However that may not be possible on the 911 if the oil filter is up top on the motor.

Agree the sa is technically correct, but in the real world I bet you will find no problem getting a good seal reusing that washer. I have done it in the same overfill situation. If you get a little seepage, just tighten the plug a very slight additional amount. Throwing out 8-9 quarts of oil for this situation is overkill.

Here's a good tutorial: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...xcess-oil.html
$30 of stuff from Amazon. I bought it just in case I ever need it.

I've had the same thing happen on motorcycles over the years and I always loosened the drain plug to let a little out and retorqued without problems, but if it will not re-seat and leaks a little you will have to drain and start over. However, if it is just a little too much I would not worry about it.

Let some out and put it back. If it leaks you will know you need to get a new one I suppose. I doubt it will though as I reused my plug when I changed my oil, 3 months 3k miles and 2 track weekends ago. It does not leak! You could also just buy a new one and swap it which would lose the excess oil in the process. I see no reason to intentionally waste all of that new oil.

Just get a fluid extractor (mityvac or similar) and suck some oil out through the fill spout, that's what I did and it took all of two minutes to snake the hose down and remove the excess oil.

I tried to use my Blackstone oil sample extractor on the 991, and found that the oil fill connection goes through some kind of small baffle arrangement that prevented me from getting the small sample tube down into the oil reservoir. It works OK with some effort on my 986, but not the 991.

OK, please tell us how you did this exactly.
