Default A/C on Auto Setting is a little strong

Hi guys, just had my car 1 day so getting to know it.

I normally use A/C on the Auto setting, and I found in the 911 it was blowing the fan quite hard and loudly even after the car seemed cool.

Then going through the settings I was pleased to see a setting I hadn’t seen before in a car, where you can switch climate control from Soft/Normal/High. So I switched to ‘Soft’ thinking this would fix the problem, but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Also on my car I noticed as part of CPO they replaced the interior temperature sensor so if no-one else has this issue I think mine may still have a problem.

And have the vents partially closed. This car has a very powerful blower! Probably the best AC on any vehicle I've ever encountered.

You can go in into the AC settings and change the Auto air flow, I think it has 3 settings.

I think you still have a problem with the temp sensor. Mine's on medium and even in the blasting texas heat, once it's reached temperature, the fan speed is totally normal.

Yes I agree. A/C itself is very cold which is the main thing.

Thumbs up

Good call - I've overlooked this setting. Rarely use auto since I thought it's too loud.

Please tolerate one of my many usual calls. As I related last week I bought a new Porsche in 1974 when the AC was installed at the port in the U.S. Never cooled but only stalled the engine at every traffic light. In 1987 I bought a new 911 that was "OK" but not perfect. In 1989, I bought a new Targa whose AC would throw spears of ice at us through the vents on a long road trip in the summer. I finally bought a new 1995 993, a 2013 991 and now a 2015 991 GTS whose AC were without objection. I think Porsche must have solved the mystery of AC.

Back in the ‘80s, the PCA held its national convention or Parade In Wisconsin. Ferry Porsche and his wife attended. The flew into Chicago and were met by a PCNA rep with a new 911 to drive to the event. In the heat and humidity of a typical midwestern summer, Ferry was appalled by the poor A/C performance. Upon return to Germany an investigation was launched. What was found was that they had been testing their A/C in the heat of the middle east, in areas that were quite dry. The hammer then came down and the 964 gen 911 was launched as a mobile meat locker. No more complaints about the A/C.

Great story! The AC in my 911 is exceptionally strong.

Great story, but as a 964 owner, I can say that even on its best day it ain’t no meat locker. It gets the job done, but no more.
