Opinion on pre-owned certified car That was stolen and recovered
Checked out a certified 911 with low miles but carfax says it has a theft record , stolen and recovered. I am surprised it was certified
the 911 with 7k miles looks immaculate and drives great but after the carfax info I am not sure if it is even worth negotiating a big discount with the dealer
Opinions?

Can you find out what was repaired after the recovery? If you expect to keep it a long time, it may be a good deal, but keep in mind, that Carfax will have the same theft event when you go to sell it.

The fact that the car was reported stolen and recovered does not necessarily mean that there was any damage to it. Could have been an ugly family fight or divorce battle with zero damage to the car. Could be a great deal!

For that kind of money,, I would really want to know if it was repaired, and who did it,, and how much,,
Also I'd want the full dump of the cars PWIS data. Especially the RPM record.
Hard to believe that kind of car could be stolen and recovered without leaving a trail, heck they should be able to get the theft report.
I know when I had a car stolen, the insurance company just sent me a check,, that day..
Then I actually recovered the car,, so I sent the check back and they paid to get the locks fixed.. and a new stereo...
They told me their policy at the time was immediate replacement and if recovered they would auction the recovered vehicle.

Either way, I wouldn’t pay that if it had a clean record, let alone a theft record. I paid just 30k more for my custom ordered 227k MSRP TTS with 0 miles and a clean record. Just for reference.
