I did mine just the other day, the air filters were nasty at 23K miles on the car. It took me two Dave Matthews songs to remove the tail lights and bumper cover. It's not difficult, there are just a lot of screws. I use a 1/4" air ratchet, which makes it fast.
Now, while you have the bumper cover off, also pull off the two rear wheels and now your spark plug change is easy as well.

In the first pic.... what be that material on the paint to protect it during disassembly? Some sort of temporary vinyl? I feel like I should grab some...

I just replaced my air filters on 2014 991 C2 over the holiday weekend. This is procedure is not difficult and requires very few tools. Replaced my spark plugs while I was at it. Having the bumper cover off made the entire job much easier. Just follow the few video's posted on Youtube and you cannot screw it up. I recommend protecting the paint right above the fender with masking tape so that you don't scratch the fender above the wheel as you are taking the cover off and back on. Also take care to not scratch the bumper cover once it is off the car.
