Need rundown of non-PSE 991 exhaust/header options
So, say you were to buy a 991 3.8L oddly spec'd without a PSE. I know, it is like buying a car without the steering wheel, right? These cars are out there though. I have found the PSE to be underwhelming, as I had it on my 997.2 and it was nearly dead silent. Sharkwerks bypass livened it up.
To get the car to an acceptable volume, what options are there? I know: "use the search" but I did and didn't find the relevant threads.
1) 991 SW bypass: no longer on their website. Did they stop making it, or is the site not yet up to date?
2) some sort of Cargraphic/K-line product?
3) fabspeed? I hear their stuff is either good or crap
4)
What about aggressive sport cat headers? Same sound or better vs PSE? I drove an M3 with stock exhaust, but sport headers: wow! That was a wicked car.
I like Soul's stuff, but they don't seem to have a non-PSE product.
I don't care if I can't turn it off: I drive around with PSE engaged 100% of the time on the GT4. If it were 20% louder, I would still have it engaged 100% of the time (and yes, my neighbors don't hate me. They walk over to hear the car before I leave).

I would probably not recommend sport headers with stock non-PSE exhaust. X-pipe is probably the easiest way to go or the complement of that which would be side muffler deletes. Cost effective and louder.
I went with a cat-back option of which there are several. I have the Akrapovic which I love and have also heard good things about Tubi. There are others like IPE, Kline but I don’t know as much about those. Good luck!

Fister mufflers and AWE/Shakwerks/Fabspeed center pipe is the winning combination. Trust me!
Zero drone on highway, nice deepened tone while cruising and AGGRESSIVE sounding at WOT.

Send SW an email through their website, I contacted them few weeks ago and was told they still have a few left, but there was no mention of discontinuing the x-pipe bypass. But keep in mind that with any type of muffler delete (center/sides), you will have some level of drone.
Header with stock header will give some sound, but still restricted. I think the best bet would be to go with full catback system (like Akra, Kline, etc). If that does not satisfy your sound requirement, then add a spot cat header. SOUL long tube header sounds promising and looks great.

Thank you for considering us! We intend to have a non-PSE exhaust as quickly as possible.

I was running Soul decat headers w a Cobb pro-tune on a non-PSE C4S, and it sounded absolutely glorious, I've received a lot of compliments on it both on the street and track. Put down an extra 20 whp on the dyno too which was definitely useful.
My headers and Cobb might be for sale soon, as soon as I stop procrastinating on posting them in classifieds.

The Carrera was set up really well and was an absolute blast on track but it got inevitably a bit tired from all that track duty. I already had a front axle issue which I was procrastinating on, and this March I somehow lost reverse gear at NJMP, which ended up requiring a whole new trans. While the car was away getting fixed under CPO, I noticed the GT3 market was softening from the nonsensical levels of last year so I just got a manual 18 instead. Trying to build a GT3 hunting Carrera was really satisfying and it hurt a lot of feelings out there but the real car is really something else.
I had actually sent my headers back to you guys to get refinished with the intention of installing it back on the Carrera as OEM setup was too slow and silent after getting used to the previous setup - the headers came back literally in brand new condition in no time, shame it won't go back on my car but fantastic service all around. If the new car needs an exhaust no question I'll hit you guys up.

I am currently shopping... if the car I buy doesn't have PSE, I am going to add the PSE controls and get the Soul muffler. If the car I buy has PSE, I am going to get the Soul muffler.

On the plus side, you had a great time with the Carrera and now you get to push a new platform to the limit! Glad we could deliver on the customer service front! Let us know when the mod bug strikes again, and I'm sure you'll see John Gaydos on your *** at NJMP some time soon!

Erko congrats on the new GT3! I built a dozen or so of those last year for Sebring and they are a heck of a platform, you picked up an excellent car. If you do an exhaust, consider our side muffler bypass pipes. It saves about 35lbs off the back of the car and a noticeable amount of heat soak off the rear tires. It would be great to see you on track this season, I run/instruct with RTR PCA and Trackxperienz let me know if you'll be at any of the events.

I run mostly w NNJR PCA and sometimes w Chin, but I'm trying to increase the number of days a bit this year so I'll be on the lookout for some RTR events as well, hopefully see you on track
