Default Paint to Sample

Looking at a 911.2 with a pts, has all the options Im interested in. Looking for input on pts valuation, my opinion, asking too much for the car . My question is:
how much does pts effect the price of the car? If the pts cost 7000 at build, does that amount carry over dollar for dollar on resale? Thanks

I don't think PTS carries over well in resale

PTS is an $11,400 option now. It does add to resale value if you PTS a great color like Gulf Blue rather than Baby Poop Metallic.

PTS only has value to the first owner who orders it and feels it is worth it to them to pay ridiculous prices for a particular color. It may have some value to a secondary owner who loves that color. For someone who is looking for a particular model of no particular color the value is ZERO.

Value of pts at resale depends on many factors, but ultimately boils down to what the market will bear, and the color. It seems like almost everyone on RL loves Mexico blue and would pay some premium to have. A color like birch green, on the other hand, has as many people who hate it as love it.

I'd agree it's a color everyone loves, but the reality is, it's not a color people are willing to pay for rather new or on the pre-owned market.... but damn, does it look pretty!

If it was a PTS color that appealed to me in a model that I wanted, then sure I would consider it an option that I would pay more for.

In the late 70s a neighbor of mine had a lavender Targa, which he bought new. I didn't even know what PTS was back then. I thought to myself I bet he got a hell of a deal on that car because the color was so awful (especially in the 70s when most all Porches you saw on dealer lots were black, red, silver or white). Now it retrospect I guess he paid more for it. Ouch.

Germans love odd colors so they probably drooled over it while it was being assembled. If you want to be noticed it was good color for that. At least it wasn't pink.

I do like former OEM colors as a retro look. Loved speed yellow. Hate racing yellow. Mexico blue always looks great.

I agree with the comments above. I think the value of a PTS car is heavily dependent on the particular color.

Porsches in unusual colors are interesting to follow. They are typically viewed as being difficult to sell. Most new Porsche buyers want black, silver, grey, or white. These make up the majority (90%+) of Porsche sales. People shy away from other colors, especially non-traditional colors like red, blue, or yellow. That said, cars in the unusual colors typically become more desirable when they are in the used car market, and desirability seems to increase with time. I like unusual colors, and I can tell you from personal experience that they sell very quickly in the used market.

That said, there are some colors that are always a tough sell. There has been a Sepia Brown (aka baby poop) 997.1 turbo for sale on these boards. As much as I like brown cars, that’s probably not one that I’d buy. I’ve seen a Pastel Yellow 996 before, and that would be a tough sale also. The PTS colors that I really find interesting are the blues (there are many) and the greens. I just saw photos of an Irish Green 991 turbo, and it looked fantastic. I’d pay a premium for that!

I’ve been looking for a non metallic PTS 911 in blue or green for 2 years. I have no way of knowing what they sell for, but I can tell you that they are always offered at a premium. If anyone knows of one selling at a discount, please share!
