SOUL DEVELOPMENT: 991.1 Carrera Valved Performance Exhaust – IMPROVED!
#286
@Soul Performance I just had the exhaust installed and picked up from my installer. Can you describe what is expected for ramp of sound for a 991.1 C2S? There is a large step in cabin noise that is noticeable around 3300 during acceleration (even gradual) that slightly steps down at 4000. From 4000 onward it's natural engine growl but that transition between 3300-4000 is different (more of a bellow?).

Our customer Tan sure likes Rotiforms as you can see - but he also loves his SOUL Competition Headers. Check out our latest blog post for full details on this build.

:)
I ordered a month or so ago and I was laughing because mine got dropped off at the installer literally last week and I then I see this and didn’t realize it was old - I have a long history of buying things that immediately become obsolete so I figured I just made the same mistake twice.
Can’t be more excited to have this installed. And your crew on the phone was absolutely awesome deal with - Paul was great.

Drone
Mike, mine is a Carrera S and I do note more grumble/engine sound (good) at start up as well as lower RPM when Sport/Sport+ is engaged; this is all good. The piece I'm trying to understand is between 3-4k where there is a loud drone in the cabin regardless of valve positioning (i.e. "standard" mode or with Sport/Sport+ engaged). With nothing selected the RPM build up is relatively quiet, as expected, but then a loud 'non-engine sounding bellow' occurs between 3-4k which I haven't read anyone else describe. I can feel slight ear-pressure in the cabin, less with the windows/sunroof cracked, but want to cross-check with you/others on what they experience. I'd like to know what can be checked for the install that could be contributing to this. I use the 3-4k range often while keeping in gear so I want to avoid that bellowing I'm getting. The rest of the range is great.

Hey Glickman, what you're experiencing is the factory exhaust programming of the car opening up the valves automatically. It's not as noticeable stock, but once you open up the exhaust system the delta between closed and open becomes much greater and more abrupt. We do have a valve controller kit that overrides that factory programming and gives you full control over the valves 100% closed or 100% open using your Homelink buttons. Feel free to give me a ring anytime at 4848836197 or email at johng@soulpp.com, happy to chat about it

Installed. One week in…….love it. Specitacular
Absolutely love it.
Couldn’t be happier with my purchase or the support. Sounds amazing and adds that extra something my little 991 base was missing. Highly recommend - the build quality and sound is perfect. EUROTECH in Natick handled install - great work all around.

I haven't driven my car in about 2 months so haven't addressed it yet. I did speak to John @ Soul PP and he gave some insight into how the valving works and how to manually defeat it for testing out different situations to help narrow down (isolate) what I'm hearing. I have a hunch it may be from the Sound Symposer and am considering having the CoV that controls that defeated. I plugged the pipe that pumps it into the rear shelf but that only helped slightly. If you're not sure what that is, Search "Sound Symposer" and you'll get some info.

A review from Rennlist member @desmotesta of our Long Tube Street Headers with HJS HD 200 cell cats:
"Installed Soul Headers and had to take a break, wash up before I could take it out for a ride
Initial impressions:
Sound:
With Valves closed- To my strained ears, even with the sunroof open, they sound no louder than OEM when exhaust valves are closed off, although the car has a different tone (a growl)
With Valves open: the car is marginally loud below 2500 RPM, and has a Growl when blipping throttle. After 2500 things change drastically, car sounds Amazing. I am besides myself
Drone: There is More drone with valves open when cruising at 60 MPH, please note that in my opinion OEM Sport exhaust ALSO DRONES, the Drone is just very slightly louder.
Power:
- Butt dyno confirms what I expected, Very noticeable Torque increase, especially between 2500-5500, I made several passes in 2nd and 3rd gear giving it full beans around 2500 and no question the car is much torquer, (by N/A standards)
All in all, this upgrade is a no brainer and something I should have done a long time ago"

Should be, but if not for some reason it's the same process as syncing your garage door opener in your owners manual. I did a little video tutorial once on a new 718 (below), it should be just about the same process on your car
