My ‘19 T had an available map update three weeks ago, as well. No clue whether it’s the same campaign, but no reason to think it’s not.

The good news is that the new map version can now accept/locate my home address. Big perk.

For $255, I will continue to use Google maps and/or Waze. They are way better in all aspects and the bonus is that they are free.

^^^ THIS! ^^^

Navigation systems in any vehicle is pretty much worthless these days when you have better and more up to date technology on mobile phones. I would much rather pay for a way to have my 991.1 PCM v3.43 be updated to a version (v4.x) which supports Android or Apple integration.

Just letting folks know who are interested that they are available. Been lot of places in Europe and the US driving my 991 with no cell coverage and it's nice to have the backup. The money is inconsequential when you are in that situation. Ends up costing about $5/month with an update every 3-4 years on the maps. I'll skip a cup of coffee each month to have the most updated maps. Works for me.

Thanks for posting this. I plan to have mine updated. It’s too bad that you can’t do the update as a DIY like I could with the older PCM systems.

I don’t like having my phone out when I’m driving. I like it to be in the glovebox. My experience with Waze has not been good; I much prefer the OE navigation system.

You can on the 991.2. It is included in the Navigation & Infotainment package. Still a cost, but a lot less. On my '18 GTS it was free the first year, and I got the 2nd year renewed for $99 (The regular price is $189/yr). The map update is just one feature of the package.

Silly question but how did you know it updated?

Or spend another 250 or so (500 total) to get apple carplay or android auto and never have to worry about map updates.

That would be great but it was not an available option for the 991.1

The one vendor i found who does this is $500 for the hardware not including installation. It is possible just not oem.

Thanks Bud. I have been watching that thread with interest. While my 991 is still under CPO, I won't open the back of the PCM to do the modification. I'll probably wait a few years until someone figures out a non-invasive fix. Porsche leaves so much money on the table with this kind of stuff. After five years or so, they should offer retrofits like the one you describe. Put the Porsche label on it, upcharge 20-30% or more like the CTEK/Porsche battery tenders and people would buy it.

Not a bad price for the nav update but I was quoted four hours for the dealer nav installation on a 958 Cayenne.

It takes a few hours for the disks to upload, but the technician literally just starts it and then lets it run. I'd definitely push them on cutting the labor because while your maps are loading, the tech is off working another job.
